The peak is covered with picturesque rocks and steep cliffs. The views from the mountain peak offer the best panoramas in the Lviv region. The Main Carpathian Watershed is a part of the Great European Watershed, which divides the basins of Black and Baltic seas. The largest rivers of the region, such as Dniester, Syan, Uzh, Latorytsya, Stryy, Rika, originate here. The ridge has few accessible passages, such as Uzhotsky, Veretsky, and the oldest one, Ruska Put (in Ukrainian, Rus way), known since neolithic times. This route was widely used in the Medieval period by the Rus kings for trade and wars. Virgin beech forests cover the southern part of the Watershed Range; further to the South-West, the beech forests are listed as a part of the trans-border UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. Ukraine has one of the biggest populations of the untouched forests of beech trees, which once used to cover most parts of Europe. Great hiking tour with gorgeous panorama views - For sure, you need good hiking shoes, because some interceptions of the mostly steep trails were rocky and slightly slippery and: you will master 800 meters of altitude difference. There were breaks during the ascent and descent. These were very useful to calm the pulse. But the hiking tour to Mount Pikuy is not only a challenge for your physical fitness. It is also a great chance to take gorgeous photos of the panorama views from the top of Mount Pikuy and the ridge. And it is quite probable that you meet other hikers. Valentyn, the tour guide, was were attentive and offered delicious Ukrainian sausages and vegetables for lunch at Mount Pikuy. We started at 8 a.m. and were back at 8 p.m. It takes about 2,5 hrs from Lviv to Bilasovytsya, the starting point of the ascent. Be aware of possibly strong winds around Mount Pikuy.

Good one day outdoor activity - Although the travelling time took around 6 hours in total, the hiking experience was good. The views were pretty good. Our tour guide Valentin sent us warm reminders in advance, keeping close contact with us. He also has good english so that we didn’t have any communication problem.
