CAIRO TO LUXOR BY PLANE,WEST BANK OF LUXOR,SOUND AND LIGHT SHOW

Valley of the Kings - Valley of the Kings, also known as “The Valley of the Gates of the Kings”, is an Egyptian valley that served as a necropolis for half a millennium from the 16th to the 11th century BC, during which tombs were constructed for pharaohs and powerful figures of the New Kingdom, spanning from the 18th to the 20th dynasties. Situated on the Nile’s west bank across from Thebes (present-day Luxor), it lies at the core of Thebes’ burial city. The Valley of the Kings is comprised of the East Valley, where the majority of the royal tombs can be found, and the West Valley. The most recent tomb discovered was in 2006, labeled as Tomb 63, with two additional entrances to this tomb found in 2008.

Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - The Temple of Hatshepsut, also known as the Djeser-Djeseru, is a mortuary temple from Egypt’s Eighteenth Dynasty, and is one of the most intact structures dating back approximately 3500 years in Deir el-Bahari, Egypt. Constructed by Queen Hatshepsut on the west bank of the Nile opposite Thebes (the epicenter of ancient Egypt and Amun worship) (Luxor in modern times). The Temple of Hatshepsut is renowned for its distinctive architectural style, which sets it apart from other Egyptian temples built on the eastern bank of the Nile in Thebes. The structure features three terraced levels with open courtyards. Made of limestone, the temple’s second level was adorned with statues of Osiris and Queen Hatshepsut, which were originally painted. While much of the color has faded, some remnants of the original hues remain, and several statues are well-preserved, showcasing the temple’s aesthetic appeal.

Colossi of Memnon - The Colossi of Memnon, locally referred to as El-Colossat or Es-Salamat, are two massive stone statues dating back to around 1350 BC, representing the remnants of a temple constructed in honor of Pharaoh Amenhotep III of the Eighteenth Dynasty. Located in the mortuary city of Thebes on the Nile’s west bank, now within the modern city of Luxor, these twin statues depict a seated Amenhotep III, with his gaze eastward (actually southeast by today’s compass) towards the river. Carved at the base of the throne are smaller figures of his wife Tiye and mother Mutemwiya. The sides of the throne feature reliefs of the Nile god Hapy. The statues were crafted from quartzite sandstone sourced from the Red Mountain near Cairo and transported 675 kilometers to Thebes (Luxor).
