Stroll along the Avenue of Sphinxes, visit the Hypostyle Hall with its 134 towering columns, admire the Obelisks of Queen Hatshepsut and Tutomosis III, and marvel at the Temple of Amon, beautifully adorned with lotus and papyrus motifs.
- Luxor Temple - Luxor Temple is a grand Ancient Egyptian temple complex situated on the east bank of the Nile River in what is now Luxor (ancient Thebes), built around 1400 BCE. Known in Egyptian as ipet resyt, “the southern sanctuary,” it was one of the two main temples on the east bank, alongside Karnak. Unlike other Theban temples, Luxor Temple is not dedicated to a cult god or a deified pharaoh. Instead, it is devoted to the renewal of kingship and may have been the coronation site for many Egyptian pharaohs, including Alexander the Great, who claimed to have been crowned there, though he may never have traveled south of Memphis, near modern Cairo.
- Colossi of Memnon - The Colossi of Memnon are two colossal stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III, standing at the entrance of the ruined Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III, the largest temple in the Theban Necropolis. Erected in 1350 BC, they were renowned among ancient Greeks and Romans, as well as early modern travelers and Egyptologists. The statues feature 107 Roman-era inscriptions in Greek and Latin, dated between AD 20 and 250; many inscriptions on the northern statue reference the Greek mythological king Memnon, whom the statue was mistakenly believed to represent.
- Valley of the Kings - Next, visit the world-renowned Valley of the Kings, the original burial site of the young King Tutankhamun, where magnificent tombs were carved deep into the desert rock, lavishly decorated and filled with treasures for the pharaohs’ afterlife. Visitors have the chance to explore three tombs. The Egyptian Government determines which tombs are open to preserve them from heavy visitor traffic. Recommended tombs include those of King Ramses IV and VI, known for their vibrant colors. Visitors can also request to see King Tut’s tomb or Queen Nefertari’s, wife of King Ramses, for an additional fee.
- Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - Continue the journey to Hatshepsut’s Temple at El Deir El Bahary. This remarkable temple, dedicated to Queen Hatshepsut, the only female Pharaoh, rises from the desert plain in a series of terraces and blends seamlessly with the towering limestone cliffs. On the return trip, stop at the Colossi of Memnon, two enormous statues representing Amenophis III facing the Nile.
