The predominant sanctuary revered the deity Amun, yet, like various sanctuaries throughout Egypt, also honored additional deities. The vast Karnak temple compound encompasses: the substantial sanctuary of Amun, precincts of Montu and Mut, and temples dedicated to Khonsu, Opet, and Ptah. Circumscribed by walls enveloping the primary sections, there existed an assortment of chapels and minor temples, alongside numerous workshops and agricultural lands. The principal distinction of the Amun temple at Karnak, when compared to most other Egyptian temples, is the scale and duration of its edification and subsequent augmentation. Around 30 pharaohs have contributed to its edifice, elevating it to a monumental scale unrivaled in its time.
