Highlights
  • CHUKKA Ocean Outpost at Sandy Bay - Rumble through the rugged countryside and as you gain confidence, pick up speed on your bike. Splash through puddles, speed past citrus plantations, roar up and down hills, and thrill as you bump along the twisting dirt trails.

Journey through the lush plains of the Blue Hole Estate, pass the beautiful community of Cascade in the parish of Hanover, and trundle by the farming village of Smithfield. Pause at one of the island’s oldest Presbyterian churches, built by slaves in 1840; and climb through forested slopes to a mountain viewpoint, at 2,200 feet (670m) above sea level, to admire the panoramic views.

Along the way, discover some of Jamaica’s native flora and fauna, and hear from your guide how some plants are used in the island’s beloved herbal remedies.

When the time comes, return to the safari ranch. Leave your ATV and perhaps revive your energies with a meal or drinks (both at own expense) at the ranch bar and grill.

ATV and horse riding excursions were a lot of fun - The place is small but has a lot of opportunities for fun! Aside from the excursions, they also have a large pool with a DJ, bar, a small place to get a bite to eat, gift shop, lockers, showers, and GREAT guides! We stayed at the Hyatt Zilara and it was a pleasant 45-60 shuttle drive away. The shuttle drivers are great too. They talk you through the different areas you drive through and give insight to some of the culture. Not to mention plenty of yeah mons! We did the horse riding one day and the ATV another. The land portion of the horse riding wasn't as good as I hoped. It was a little short and did not have opportunities to stop for photos. The last 5 minutes was cool though because you took the horses out swimming in the ocean. That was incredible! Wish the whole tour could have been on the beach and in the ocean. The guides were really nice and helpful. The ATV experience was even better! It lasted longer, had opportunities to stop for pictures, and the guides were funny and really made it that much more fun!

vroom - Exhilarating! I was a slow driver because it was my first time & the crew assigned one driver to escort me & my bf but I didn’t feel bad I felt more safe & could have fun at my pace. We saw donkeys, horses & learned about all spice. Loved it can’t wait to ATV again.

Not what we anticipated… - Unfortunately, we were so looking forward to this excursion. Anticipating seeing a few different villages, or at least a village, anticipated a great view, off of a mountainside, or even a stop at a parish church, which was listed in the description. None of the above happened. Essentially the ride which we were told would be 30 minutes was nearly 45 minutes to an hour each way. When we arrived, we did our quick check-in, our tour was called, and we had a safety briefing. Then we were excited and ready to go. But what unfolded was literally an ATV experience around the property there. Essentially going around the farm past couple of cows with one brief pitstop to show us one plant. That was it. From start to finish on the ATV was approximately 30 minutes. had we known that would’ve been one thing, but it felt a bit like a beat and switch unfortunately.

Major waste of time and money - Stayed at Sandals - excursion offered by the resort. We did the 3 hour ATV excursion. Basically, it occupied 7 hours of time, for about 45 minutes of riding. Riding was in circles basically on a dusty, rocky trail with maybe 2 minutes of views. It's one hour from the resort, and the bus stops at a lot of other resorts. Youll be stuck at the facility for at least two hours doing nothing. This was really a waste of time, and I'd highly recommend avoiding this if you're staying at Sandals. Sandals should really consider removing this option from their excursion list.
