Highlights
  • Alms Giving Ceremony - [5:30 am opition only] In Buddhism, alms or almsgiving is the respect given by a lay Buddhist to a Buddhist monk, nun, spiritually-developed person or other sentient being. It is not charity as presumed by Western interpreters. It is important to know the ceremony is also a spiritual practice to accumulate good karma for those who give the alms. It is closer to a symbolic connection to the spiritual realm and to show humbleness and respect in the presence of the secular society. The act of almsgiving connects the human to the monk and what he represents.

The morning alms giving is a living Buddhist tradition for the people of Luang Prabang which, because of its beauty, has become a major tourist attraction. However, when tourists are unaware of its customs their inappropriate behaviors can be disruptive.

Incredible tour packed into a short time! - There were only two of us on the tour, which tour was only four hours, but it was incredible. Puang, a former monk, was our tour guide who took us to three major temple areas with one area including a museum. Puang did an outstanding job in sharing the history about Luang Prabang and Laos in general.

Worth getting up early for and good city tour - Pickup was on time. Alms giving was a worthwhile experience and gave an insight into the monks way of life. Morning market was fascinating. Glad we got up early for it. Tour of the city was informative and fascinating to see the temples and views of the Mekong river. Ideal length of time and everything was very local.

Good tour. - Tour guide and driver was very efficient. Itenirary is decent. Took my sweet time climbing Mount Poushi. Its not am easy climb if you have arthritis or out of shape. I wish the tour company or the guide notified us beforehand that the National Museum was closed on the 28th of each month. Also, the tour company could have added the Presidential Monument as a tour stop because it is right next to the UXO Visitor Center.

Good tour - The sites were good. There was a lot of steps (climbing) and that would have been good to know ahead of time because we had someone with bad knees. It moved quickly in some parts and then too slowly (a LOT of information) in other parts. It would also have been helpful to have the dress policy and cash info ahead of time since it was different for each place and we were unprepared. But our guide was nice and the tour was good.

Good option for main sights - On time tour. Guide spoke decent English, and was very friendly. Alms ceremony very touristy as expected. Seems locals don’t participate any more or must be in another part of the town. National museum of some interest although most of the contents were plundered when the Royal Family were deposed. What’s left is not well displayed and dusty. It was so hot, so only went to the main temple complex of Wat Xiang Thong. Also interesting and different architecture to many others.

Fun. Informative. - Informative and fun. The VERY early rise is worth it to get tje low down in the lives of tje monks in LP and to meet them up close. Temple and museum visits are a little too slow I think, but that's a personal thing. Our guide from MANIFA TRAVEL was great. Recommended.
