Fantastico - We really enjoyed our authentic and genuine Mexican Ranchero experience with Danny , Jordan and the whole family there. The van was roomy and comfortable for our drive to the Ranchero with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Upon arrival at the ranch we were greeted by the charming 8 yr old Romeena who showed us the baby goats and judged our cactus cutting skills. Believe it or not the boys got more thumbs up than the girls!!! We picked chilis for the feast heat and learned that we knew very little about the many different types of local plant life including bananas, figs, squash blossoms , cactus and more! We then got split into different cooking stations and worked together to created an amazing taco dinner which was complimented with sweet sipping tequila and lemongrass water. After we saw the different types of cactus and irrigations systems and ended with a beautiful walk on the sunsetting beach. We highly recommend this tour as it gives you a true taste of the real Mexico! Salut! Darren Z

Thoroughly enjoyable day - Wonderful day. Danny is very passionate about showing us the operation of a traditional ranchero and the culture of the indigenous people of this area. He picked us up at our condo and drove up north about 35 minutes to an authentic functioning Mexican ranchero. He explained the functions of the ranchero along with the farm to farm and farm to table that they deal with day to day. He highlighted the plants, trees and crops they grow and provided an interesting explanation of water availability to the ranchero as well as Cabo San Lucas. The highlight came with harvesting the nopales with Romina(8 yrs old & the queen of the ranchero) helping and grading our tasks. We then prepared the cactus, made fresh tortillas, 2 kinds of salsa, fresh goat cheese from their goats and frijoles. Mercedes(Romina’s mom) guided us through the tortilla making and cooking process. The tacos were phenomenal. Jordan provided some excellent guitar music. All in all, an incredible adventure was provided by Dharma Expeditions. Danny, Mercedes, Romina & Jordan provided us with an amazing experience that we will always remember. I highly recommend anyone interested not only in harvesting and cooking cactus tacos, but learning a piece of history of this area to sign up for this tour, you will be amazed.

A delicious food experience filled with family, economic and community benefits! - We loved this activity from start to finish! While cooking and eating are featured prominently, we learned so much important context about the lives, livelihoods and culture of the few remaining indigenous Ranchero Californio families facing huge challenges: intense overdevelopment of the Los Cabos area, climate change, skyrocketing housing prices, etc. It was a joy to meet Mercedes Romero and two of her children, learn about the nutritional and commercial significance of the nopal cacti, and participate in preparing in a traditional meal that was delicious and filling-- homemade tacos filled with freshly cut and cooked nopales pieces, two different types of salsas, topped off with crumbles of the freshest goat cheese...made only hours earlier. Equally joyful was listening to Danny, the founder of Dharma Expeditions, share his story of how he first connected with a few of the families and why he's so passionate about connecting them with travelers. We loved knowing that our tourism dollars were staying local and helping to generate additional income for these families. Two other special touches: Danny's colleague, Jordan, playing his guitar as we lingered over the last bites of our meal; a short drive and walk along a beautiful, quiet beach just in time to catch the setting of the sun. A perfect wrap up to a very memorable day. Thanks to Mercedes and her family and to Dharma Expeditions for a shared experience that will stay with us for a long time to come!

Simply Amazing! - What an amazing experience this was!! Very unique tour! Learning how to cook cactus and make tortillas was awesome! Danny, the tour guide, is so passionate about educating others about the culture and ranchero way of life. The family was so lovely and Danny’s friend on the tour entertained us with his guitar. We had to skip watching the sunset over the Pacific due to a schedule conflict but we still got to experience the beach. Save time to enjoy the sunset when you book this trip. I would do this tour again in a heartbeat! Thanks to everyone for making it a memorable afternoon for our crew!

Great tour of the rancho... - Great tour of the rancho with Danny and Jordan! It's a glimpse into a simple way of life. Not "manicured" like many things have become in Cabo appealing to the American tourist, but authentic and enjoyable to be apart of. The food you prepare is tasty, and you learn about the old rancho culture that is fading away. Great extra stop at the beach for sunset.

Cactus Farm - The cactus farm experience was beyond expectations. We learned how to grow, harvest and prepare a cactus for cactus tocos. We also prepared homemade green and red salsa, and tortillas from white and blue corn meal. The tortillas were cooked in a traditional fire stove. The drink was Lemon grass tea. All was delicious. We were fortunate to meet the family that owns the ranch and to immerse ourselves in their traditions and culture for a moment. Danny, the tour guide had a passion to keep alive, by involving his guests , in the true culture of the Mexican people. This experience was well worth our time and money. Thank you Danny.
