Highlights
- Mondo’s Beach - You’ll meet your instructor at our white box truck or blue van that say Santa Barbara Surf School on them. We’ll get suited up in a wetsuit at the vehicles, grab a long board, and walk to the sand for beach instruction. After some brief teaching on surf safety, etiquette, and technique we’ll rush into the ocean to catch you some waves! Your instructor will be coaching you and pushing you into waves to make the experience a memory that will last!
Our lessons are private so you or your group will have their own instructor and personalized experience.
The majority of our lessons are for first timers which is why our lessons include: a surfboard, wetsuit, and 90 minutes of private instruction. Typically, lessons are taught at beaches with a sandy bottom and gentle waves 15 miles south of Santa Barbara.
Please note: You must know how to swim in order to surf with us. This is safety precaution, we ask that everyone surfing with us knows how to swim.

Additional Information
Get surf-savvy in scenic Santa Barbara! A proficient coach will guide you on how to mount your board and master those waves, sharing advice on maintaining equilibrium all while prioritizing safety. All competencies are welcome, and gear hire is part of the package. This city in Southern California provides fantastic opportunities for outdoor activities like surfing throughout the year.

We're 5-10 minutes from Ventura; 25-30 minutes from Santa Barbara. We'll send you detailed instructions after you book to help you find us at Mondos Beach as it can be busy. You'll be meeting your instructor at our van or box truck; both say Santa Barbara Surf School.

Exciting first time surfing - We had a fabulous experience for our very first time surfing. Mondos beach was great and the weather was amazing although the wind was a bit. Surfing is hard!! But our instructors were great, very patient and giving lots of instruction. We had a great experience and would do it again.

Had a blast with my three boys - We had a great time with Adam and Aiden. I had my three boys with me and we were all up and surfing immediately. They gave us a good overview, then got us into the right waves so we could catch them consistently. In 90 minutes, we were hooked and went back out the next day to catch some more on our own thanks to their lesson. Highly recommended.

Five Star Experience - My 5yo and 9yo loved surfing with this crew! It’s our second summer taking lessons with them and we will only book with them. They make surfing fun and safe for the kids. A huge shoutout to Tyler, who my 5yo had a blast with - great personality and instructor!

Perfect surf experience for beginners! - My 2 boys, 11 and 14 had a surf lesson with Ben. It was the best day!! Ben was an excellent instructor, so nice, patient and fun!! He made my boys feel completely comfortable in the water with his enthusiasm and constant encouragement. The waves at Ventura Beach were perfect for learning. It was such a fantastic experience for us a family! Thanks again Ben! You are awesome in every way!

Awesome surf instruction - Our instructor Jack was incredible and the break just right for beginner’s. He got us up on several waves quickly and made this the highlight day of our trip!

First time lessons - Our 15 yo and 11 yo have surf lessons with Seth. He was great! They both want to do it again before we leave. Our 11 yo was scared and don’t want to try it when we first got here. Thank you Seth!

Great for first time surfers - Great instructor (John) for a first timer! Waves and weather were perfect. Just a short lesson on the sand and then we got out there and surfed! Amazing!

Surfing in SB highly recommend - We had a great experience from the web site to the follow up calls and the day of service. All were nice and friendly and very accommodating. We were all new to surfing and all of us had a ballast and got to ride some waves with the help of the instructor

Awesome experience - We booked a lesson for our 7 year old grandson. The instructor was excellent. He was patient, did a great job of teaching the fundamentals. Great communicator. Our grandson has never been surfing and his first time in the ocean was three days prior. He was up on the board and surfing a wave on the first try. He had a total blast and is wanting to go back for more. I don't know who runs this company, but they have created a wonderful culture. Nice going.

Amazing family fun experience - We had two days of 1.5 hr lessons from the great instructors. We all loved it, especially our 11 and 13 yo had an amazing time and look like mini surf pro’s! Highly recommend this company!
