Additional Information

The dawn of contemporary Lisbon kicked off with the birth of Liberty Avenue, the city’s solitary Boulevard. Conceived as the core artery during the city’s growth in the late 19th-century, it rapidly transformed into a high-end residential and entertainment zone as well as the verdant path leading towards the initiation of the Edward VII Park, the city center’s biggest park. As of today, the area encompassing Liberty Avenue houses the greatest density of boutique shops, luxury hotels, and big corporation offices. Yet, it’s intriguingly also one of the least recognized and familiar regions of Portugal’s capital. Delving into Avenida da Liberdade and Parque Eduardo VII offers a singular opportunity to reflect on the city’s progression over the previous two centuries and the significant hurdles it currently encounters.
