Highlights
  • Cais do Sodre - A unique opportunity to visit the home of a local and explore traditional culture and cuisine. Your experience will take place in Almada, just a short 7-minute ferry ride from downtown Lisbon. Paula will meet you at the ferry stop in Cacilhas and take you on a lovely 10-minute walk through the center of town to her apartment, located just a few meters from the neighborhood’s main covered market. Start your experience with a tour of the neighborhood market where Paula has been visiting and shopping for decades. Then head to Paula’s home kitchen where you will learn to make 2-3 Portuguese and Portuguese-Goan dishes. You will learn to make two appetizers such as pataniscas de bacalhau, traditional Portuguese cod fritters, and Goan bojas, gram flour fritters made with onion and cumin seeds. Then make a main dish, where you can select between a Portuguese or Goan main dish, such as bacalhau a braz, a traditional Portuguese dish of cod with shredded potatoes and egg, or a Goan curry. After cooking, sit down together at Paula’s dining table or in her cooking studio table across the street. End your meal with a sweet dessert and coffee or tea.

Awesome day with an awesome lady! - Paulina was absolutely fantastic. She made my daughter and I feel like family. She not only taught us how to cook some amazing Goan dishes but also gave us a tour and history lesson of her town. My daughter and I cannot quit talking about what a wonderful day and lady she is. Highly recommend for anyone. Thanks Paulinha. See you next time.

One of the most unique... - One of the most unique and exclusive experiences me and my gf have ever experienced. Right from the start Paula was very inviting and made us feel comfortable in her hometown of Almada. Loved the fact that we actually picked out our own ingredients from the local market. Paula not only taught us about clever cooking tricks but also taught us about the Portuguese culture as well. We def made a friend while we were there! Obrigada Paula!!

Excellent Experience! - Across the river from the bustling city of Lisbon is the charming town of Cacilhas. Exiting the ferry and walking along the river, you'll get an expansive view of the the bridge, river and city of Lisbon. Paula is a long time resident of Cacilhas and shares her knowledge of not only the area but the history of Goans in Portugal. Her home is warm and cozy and offers a glimpse of daily life in the local market and shops. As soon as you enter her home, you feel as though you have come to have lunch with family. Conversation over delicious home cooking evolves into shared stories of past travels, food experiences and family. I learned so many useful tips regarding cooking techniques, where to purchase quality ingredients as well as the history of Goan food. As a solo traveler, I felt very safe and enjoyed not only cooking alongside Paula but breaking away from the busy city. A wonderful and delicious way to spend the afternoon! Thank you Paula for opening your home and kitchen to me!
