Highlights
  • Oceanario de Lisboa - Opened during the Lisbon World Exposition of 1998, the Oceanario is a top attraction. With over 1 million annual visitors, it offers an enchanting glimpse into the underwater world. Explore 8,000 sea creatures from 500 species, including penguins, otters, sharks, and corals. The main exhibit features a 5-million-liter saltwater aquarium, surrounded by habitats representing the North Atlantic, Antarctic, Temperate Pacific, and Tropical Indian Ocean. The journey unfolds on two levels, crossing temperate, tropical, and cold waters of different oceans. Notable installations include “Forests Underwater” and “ONE - The Sea as you’ve never felt it,” both celebrating oceanic beauty and connection with nature. The Oceanario is not just a spectacle; it actively promotes ocean education, research, and conservation efforts, collaborating with various institutions. Expert biologists and engineers ensure high-quality exhibitions and consulting services for aquariums worldwide.

Lisbon Aquarium - Excellent place to visit. You need a full day. So much to see and do - restaurant very good as well. The location is quite a way outside the main old town regions so allow good travel time. The cable car is immediately adjacent and a pleasant ride as well. We did both on the same ticket.

Wonderful oceanarium - Great experience, amazing sea world. Only don't eat in their restaurant, it's awful, the salmon was really bad, pork hasn't taste of pork at all

Really wonderful - possibly the best aquarium in the world - When something self-proclaims itself to be the best in the world, expectations are naturally high. However, the Lisbon Oceanarium definitely lives up to its own hype - and then some. It’s not cheap - we paid about €75 for our family of 4 - but this includes a return ticket on the cable car just round the corner which is well worth the extra few euros! The oceanarium itself is simply stunning. The main tank is absolutely huge and packed with interesting sea life including plenty of different sharks and rays. There is a UHD cinema room that you can simply walk in and out of at any time and enjoy the repeating film on the oceans. But I think the real magic lies in the smaller exhibits - we particularly loved the sea otters who are very happy to show off for you! We spent about 3 hours here in total, and you could easily spend longer if you wanted to. Honestly, it’s the best aquarium we’ve visited by a long way. You won’t be disappointed.

A dip in the tub - Spectacular, educational, relaxing, fun are the adjectives that come to mind to comment on the visit to the oceanarium. Easily reachable by metro (oriente stop), after a short walk you arrive at the ticket office. It is advisable to arrive early to have an acceptable queue. The visit lasts just over an hour and, in addition to the spectacular tank that contains sharks, manta rays, groupers and other fish that can be seen from every position, there is another smaller one dedicated to very colorful Indian Ocean fish and then much more (amphibians, rare fish, freshwater fish). ideal for families, but also for all nature lovers.

Well worth a trip - A really good morning out. The place is very well laid out and exhibits are all clear and good to see. Great for big and small kids. Food at the place was great and not expensive. Make sure that you do the cable car nearby, its cheaper to buy the ticket with the entrance tickets foe the aquarium.

Enough to see the justify the entry price, good for children. - A good few hours entertainment. Great large main pool, and spaces to sit and watch. A lot of exhibits. Sea otters very entertaining to watch for quite a while. Can get close to the Inca terns and penguins. Cafe decent. Price high but overall about worth it. Two teenagers enjoyed it a lot.

Nice if you don't give up anything else - Nice but not exciting (in comparison for example with Genoa). I've seen similar places that were more engaging, not much variety
