Fado - A Story of Bandits, Whores and Urban Poetry - Last weekend, a group of me and I had the pleasure of participating in the tour "Fado - A History of Bandits, Whores and Urban Poetry", accompanied by Luis Maio, and we were completely satisfied with the experience. Luis is truly exceptional! His passion for the history of fado and his in-depth knowledge of Mouraria and Alfama made the tour extremely enriching. He not only took us to the origins of fado, but also captivated us with fascinating stories about the evolution of this emblematic musical genre. Walking through the streets and alleys of Mouraria while listening to Luis was a truly unique experience. He led us through the streets like an authentic storyteller, revealing the secrets and beauty of this historic neighborhood. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the culture and history of fado in Lisbon. Thank you, Luis, for making this experience so special! We can't wait to join you on another tour.

We learned a lot - Luis was passionate about Fado and while walking, entertained us with stories of the history and neighborhood. He was very accommodating, pacing the tour to respond to our questions and my decreased mobility. I learned towards the end of the tour, that he is also an instructor at a media college and could have given us some photography tips. I recommend Luis as a knowledgeable and kind guide.

Fado takes on life - As music lovers, we were drawn to this tour to understand how fado came to be. Luis, our outstanding and informative guide, did just that. He helped us see the significance of the neighborhood of Mooraria in many of the traditional songs, performed by the old time fado singers and the great love and admiration held for these singers. The tour was punctuated with samples of recorded musings - a very helpful touch.
