Additional Information

Experience the stunning vistas of verdant landscapes and soak in the old-world charm at Kiambethu tea plantation, offering a serene glimpse into the day-to-day operations of a colonial farm. Enjoy a three-course meal prepared from fresh produce, accompanied naturally by a cup of tea, and engage in a leisurely stroll amidst the sprawling tea gardens.

Nestled at a lofty 7,200 ft., Kiambethu was acquired and cultivated by AB McDonell in 1910. He pioneered the commercial growth, production, and sale of tea in Kenya, marking the genesis of one of Kenya’s primary exports. The farm, now under the stewardship of his granddaughter Fiona Vernon, has been home to five generations. Set against a backdrop of attractive gardens, the farm house is surrounded by tea plantations and indigenous forest, a haven for the Colobus monkey and a diverse array of other wildlife.

Kiambethu Tea Farm - Obed was an amazing driver and guide to and from the tea farm. He was punctual, very pleasant and was very knowledgeable and we had great conversations. The Tea Farm was amazing, the luncheon was fantastic. I would definitely recommend doing this day trip and you will be especially lucky if you get Obed as your driver.

Lovely day out of Nairobi exploring tea country - Alex our driver was professional and knowledgeable. On the drive to the tea estate he provided insights on Kenya’s tourist spots as well as Kenyan history. He was an extremely safe driver and the trip was enjoyable. The tour at the tea plantation was informative. It was an opportunity to see first hand how tea is grown and understand the process to turn leaves into tea. A delicious farm to table lunch ended the tour. Spectacular grounds. Tip: wear sensible walking shoes and be prepared for cooler temperatures. Highly enjoyable.
