• Yulong (Jade Dragon) Mountain - Known as the southernmost snow-capped mountain in the Northern Hemisphere, the Jade Dragon (Yulong) Snow Mountain is a must-visit in Lijiang City. Comprising 13 peaks, the tallest, Shanzidou, reaches 5,596 meters above sea level. The range extends 35 kilometers north to south and 15 kilometers west to east. From Lijiang Old Town, the snow-covered and misty mountain resembles a giant jade dragon, hence the name “Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.”
• Baisha Ancient Town - Baisha Old Town, one of Lijiang City’s oldest, derives its name “Baisha,” meaning “white sand,” from the area’s natural white sand. It was the birthplace of the Tusi Dynasty, which evolved from the Mu Clan, and the earliest settlement of the Naxi people. Historically, Baisha was a hub for silk embroidery in southwest China and a key location on the Ancient Tea and Horse Road.
• Yushui Village - Situated about 15 kilometers north of Lijiang City, at the base of Yulong Snow Mountain in Baisha Town, Yushui Village offers natural and unspoiled scenery, particularly its ethereal and clear water views. It is a sacred site for the Dongba religion of the Naxi people, where visitors can explore the unique and vibrant Naxi culture, including sacrificial offerings and papermaking.
• Shuhe Ancient Town - Also known as Longquan Village, meaning “dragon spring village,” Shuhe Ancient Town is located north of Lijiang Ancient City. In the Naxi language, Shuhe means “a village at the foot of a peak.” As the earliest settlement for Naxi ancestors, Shuhe Ancient Town is a living example of their transition from an agricultural to a commercial culture. Like Lijiang Ancient City, Shuhe is surrounded by a gentle river and paved with smooth flagstones. It is a compact village nestled in the forest, near mountains and rivers, offering a quieter, smaller version of Lijiang Ancient City.
• Black Dragon Pond Park - Black Dragon Pool (黑龙潭), located 1 km north of Lijiang Old Town at the base of Xiangshan Mountain, is a must-see when visiting Lijiang Old Town. It offers the best views and photo opportunities of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Black Dragon Pool is also the water source for Lijiang Old Town, with spring water as clear as jade. On clear days, visitors can enjoy the stunning combination of pure water, snow-capped mountains, and blue skies. In addition to its natural beauty, Black Dragon Pool boasts the highest concentration of national-level cultural relics in Lijiang. Visitors can explore numerous ancient structures from the Ming or Qing Dynasty and marvel at two wonders: the two-never-blend-pool and the 3 Unique Trees from different dynasties.
• Lashi Lake - Located on the southern slope of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, 10 km (6.2 miles) from Lijiang Old Town, Lashi Lake is part of the Lijiang – Lashihai Plateau Wetland Nature Reserve. It is a haven for migratory birds, with thousands wintering here annually. Lashi Lake is also the starting point of the Ancient Tea Horse Road.
• Yuhu Village And Joseph Rock’s Residence - Approximately 15 kilometers north of Lijiang Old Town, Yuhu Village, home to the Naxi minority, is the last village in the valley, situated at the foot of Jade Dragon Mountain in Lijiang. The houses, constructed with unique “monkey head” rocks, a blend of rocks and dried earth, maintain the village’s appearance as it was in the early 20th century when Joseph Rock chose it as his residence.
• Blue Moon Valley - The Baishui River flows through a deep valley called Blue Moon Valley, shaped like a crescent moon. On sunny days, the water appears blue, and from afar, the valley resembles a blue moon at the base of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
