• Las Médulas Natural Monument - Depart from León and head towards Las Médulas, situated approximately 25 km from Ponferrada. Recognized as a World Heritage Site, Las Médulas were ancient mines where the Romans extracted gold using the “montium ruin” technique during the 1st and 2nd centuries, with the gold being sent directly to Rome.

The visit begins at the Las Médulas visitor reception center, where a 15-minute documentary about the site is shown. Following the documentary, a guide will lead the group outside to start the tour. This guided tour is conducted on foot and lasts for 2 hours. It is advisable to wear suitable clothing and footwear for the terrain. Throughout the tour, visitors can observe the impact on the mountain from the mining activities, as well as learn about the extraction process.

After the tour, visitors will be taken to Ponferrada, the capital of the Bierzo region, where they can enjoy free time to relax, dine, and explore the city at their own pace. Be sure to visit the well-preserved Templar Castle, the Basilica of the Virgen de la Encina, or the Monastery of Santa María de Carracedo. Ponferrada is full of charming spots to discover! The return to León is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
