Highlights
  • Hoover Dam Bypass - After pickup from your Las Vegas hotel, take a short drive by comfortable van to the Hoover Dam for a brief photo stop. This 726-foot (221-meter) dam holds back the mighty Colorado River, behind which you’ll find Lake Mead, a beautiful man-made reservoir contained within the Black Canyon walls. Take all the ‘dam’ photos you want!
  • Chloride, Arizona - Next, head to the small mining town of Chloride, a community that has survived the harsh desert environment since the 1860s. Silver and other minerals were mined here for decades, and after the mining boom was over, Chloride nearly became a ghost town. Today, Chloride is home to about 250 residents who are very proud of their mining history. Browse the antique shops; admire the various artistic sculptures; and chat with the locals before enjoying lunch.
  • Route 66 - Next, drive along the Historic Route 66 highway to the small ghost town of Oatman.
  • Oatman Ghost Town - The present-day population of this ghost town is 150 people and one poltergeist who goes by the name of ‘Oatie the Ghost.’ He’s believed to be the poor spirit of William Ray Flour, an Irish miner who died behind the Oatman Hotel. Enjoy views of the Black Mountains and the tumbleweeds and wild burros that freely roam through the town. Have your picture taken alongside modern-day cowboys and bandits while posing in front of an authentic Route 66 sign. You’ll also have a chance to take part in a Western shootout. Held in the middle of the street, this Western-style event features cowboys in costume standing face-to-face, ready to draw. Enjoy a drink at a local saloon (at own expense) before traveling through the Mojave Desert along the Veterans Memorial Highway, a road that cuts straight through empty desert landscape.

Your last stop before returning to the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas will be in El Dorado, which was named by the Spaniards who discovered gold in the area. This town served as the backdrop for many famous western movies and also housed the famous Techatticup Mine, where millions of dollars worth of gold and silver have been unearthed.

  • Las Vegas - Your tour will conclude with drop-off at your original departure point.

Cowboys and history what more can you ask for - Joel was a fantastic guild, full of knowledge and historical information. The tour didn't feel rushed and we have plenty of free time to wonder round the 3 ghost towns visited. Joel was engaged and made the tour very much enjoyable. Lunch was provided which was delicious. Would highly recommend and would definitely book again if in Vegas.

4 day trip to Las Vegas tips - Las Vegas 4 day stay at the Mirage & tips My wife and I had a good time in Vegas, we stayed at the mirage, which we found to be in the center of Las Vegas Blvd. making it easy to get to just about anywhere, plus access to the free tram. ( there are two trams one is free the other you pay for) a cab from the airport to the hotel $30.00 about a 20 minute ride. Check in at the hotels are around 4pm, so if you get there earlier, you won’t be able to check in, so check your bags with the bell men. Since we arrived early we had a 4 hour wait, so we used the time to scope out the hotel and we’re the pool was located and it’s hours of operation. At the Mirage the pool opened at 9am but people got on line 1/2 hour earlier,in order to get a free chair before everyone rushes to get one, otherwise your stuck having to pay for one. You’ll also will fine that some people just put their towels down on the chairs and then walkway not to be seen for hours. Best times for the pool and chairs early morning or after 230 pm. Another tip bring a small collapsing cooler, to bring to the pool ( no glass allowed) Once our room was ready, we just called down to the bell men and our luggage was brought up very quickly. Once we unpacked, we went across the street to Walgreens and purchased waters and other drinks, snacks,to keep in our room in ice buckets, otherwise things can get expensive. If you’re looking for reasonable food cost, I would recommend going to the miracle mile shopping mall it’s about a 20 minute walk from the mirage. Breakfast at the hotels for two can run from 60 to $80. At the miracle mile we got, two eggs, bacon, potatoes, toast, for $5.00 at la Salas which opens at 8am across from there is Blondies, also good deals on breakfast and lunch, there is also a place in the miracle mile we’re anything on the lunch menu is $5.00 we saw it and there was a line for it,so we ate at earl of sandwiches, two small hero’s and free refills for two cost us $21.00, wear comfortable shoes there’s a lot of walking.,hotels seem close to each other but believe me there not, my wife and I were doing about 20 to 25000 steps per day that’s 10 plus mile’s per day Suggestion bring or buy at cvs or Walgreens, liquid I.v. Great for exhaustion and hang overs, it works quick you mix it with your water. Also be careful of individual trying to sell you VIP concert passes, it’s a scam, only a promotor can give out VIP passes, and thief usually free. Hope I’ve given you some insight, Enjoy Vegas. I found the best time was Labor Day ( Sunday to Thursday) we found it less crowded.

2 Thumbs Up - Communication with the booking office was excellent. We cancelled and re-booked, hassle free. Thank you ladies for your great service and understanding. This was a great adventure for all 10 of us. Indy is a great historian and provided us with the background and history of each town we visited. He is very informative, patient and personable. The scenery along route 66 were amazing. We enjoyed the lunch too. I would definitely recommend Bindlestiff Tours to friend who are going to venture in this part of the US in the future.

Arizona Ghost Towns - The trip was really good. The ghost towns are really out there and not very populated. Loved the town of Oatman with the burros and the shootout. Great time by my wife and I. El Dorado was kinda of not so hot to visit. Perhaps replace that with more time in Oatman or some other place in future.

Something a bit different from The Strip - We took this trip on a Saturday, with our guide Joel. The whole day was very interesting, Joel being a mine of information. He clearly does a lot of research and reading, and is more than willing to pass all of this on. The ghost towns are absolutely fascinating, and a total contrast to the madness that is the Las Vegas strip. The only reason I've given it 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is a lot of driving in between each town, although the amount of time spent in each one is about right. A really enjoyable day out.
