Highlights
  • Known as the doorway to the 1000 Islands, Gananoque is globally recognized as one of the most beautiful waterfront towns in Eastern Ontario, relished by locals, tourists, and businesses alike.
  • In Ontario, the islet known as McDonald Island is located not far from White Calf Islands, and near Ynysrag Island.
  • Between Kingston and Gananoque, Ontario, on the St. Lawrence River, lies Howe Island, one of the globally famous 1000 islands.
  • With an actual count of 1864 islands, the 1000 Islands (French: Mille-Îles) are spread across more than 50 miles in the Saint Lawrence River, starting at the northeast tip of Lake Ontario to Kingston, Ontario, straddling the Canadian and U.S. border.

The Canadian islands are part of Ontario province while the U.S. islands belong to the state of New York.

A landmass qualifies as one of the Thousand Islands if it maintains at least one square foot of land above water all year round and sustains a living tree. The islands vary in size from massive landscapes of over 40 square miles to smaller islands hosting single households, or even uninhabited rocky formations. Many of the islands are public property and provide visitors with parks, campgrounds, and rental cottages.

Nice way to see the 1000 Islands. - Fantastic boat tour! Lots of history and great views of everything, including Boldt Castle. The boat had enough space to move around easily and the company caps the number of guests on each tour so you have opportunity to view the sites from different spots on the boat since it's not jam-packed. We all enjoyed the tour.

Unique and beautiful - Restroom available, plenty of parking, easy to find, beautiful view! Staff was very polite and available to help. Also hot dogs, snack, coffee and alcohol for sale on the cruise. 1 hour was a compact tour. Weather was over cast today ( Sept 2023). Somewhat slippery.

A Must See and Do Experience - The best aspect of the Cruise Experience was the greeting and welcome I received from Janet and Christina. They are incredible people - kind - helpful - very pleasant - and compassionate (I have mobility challenges). They define what true caring is all about and how real customer satisfaction should be done. Bless their hearts for taking care of me. George Kouri

Your was very nice. - The cruise was very nice, thanks to beautiful day! The washroom, at rear, on second deck, was filthy and smelled horrible! It was impossible to hear the explanation of the tour, sitting on the back, outside, on the second deck.

Beautiful views but boat needs work - The views were beautiful with an good overview of the 1000 landmarks. The boat itself is definitely old and not luxury. Couldn't hear the tour guide unless you were on the top deck as the speakers weren't working elsewhere.

ill-considered booking - Unfortunately, we were not able to arrive on time to take part in the cruise. We were travelling from another city and there was a problem with our car. As we found out when we contacted the cruise company, we would have had an opportunity to rebook the cruise, if we had booked it through the website of the cruise company, but since we booked it through Tripadvisor, we did not have such an option. So, if you aren't sure, whether you can arrive on time, we would definitely recommed to make a reservation through the cruise company directly.
