Wonderful week in Sumatra - We booked a 6-day, 7-night trip to Sumatra, where Sumatra Orangutan Treks picked us up at the airport in Medan and dropped us back at the airport after 7 days.
The trip started with a 4-hour flight delay, but there was no problem rescheduling the trip or contacting the organizers and driver.
We chose a 1-day jungle tour in Bukit Lawang, and our guide was Erwin, with his assistants Azri and Bambang.
My husband felt ill during the trek, and that's when we realized how important a guide is on a trip. They took care of us and completed the trek and rafting trip via an easier route.
The motorbike rides through the jungle were fantastic, and we saw three orangutans. The villa we stayed in was charming. We loved the garden and waking up to the birdsong.
Dani was our guide for the next few days, and Godex was our driver, and they made sure we had a wonderful time in Sumatra.
First, we traveled to Berastagi, where we visited the market, the ghost village, and the surrounding area. Climbing the volcano with Dani in the dark, watching the sunrise, was a fantastic adventure. A later rest in the hot springs allowed us to recover from the early wake-up call.
The next day was a trip to Samosir Island on Lake Toba, with a stop at the beautiful Sipisopiso Waterfall.
The island is a beautiful place where you can relax, enjoy the scenery, but also explore and learn about the local culture.
We were lucky to have Dani as our guide; we spent an unforgettable week with him. He showed us beautiful places on the island and spoke with passion and love about the local culture and Sumatra. In this review, we'd like to thank him immensely for his dedication and captivating moments. And for the wonderful photos he took of us.
A huge thank you also to our driver, Godex, for safely transporting us through the not-so-pretty Indonesian roads and crazy Indonesian traffic.
This team – Dani + Godex – did a fantastic job on our trip.
The organizers were also impeccable, from contact after booking the trip, to choosing accommodations and guides. They also provided support in unexpected situations when we had to deviate from the plan and improvise.

Fantastic experience and staff - Orang Utan villa in Bukit Lawang wqas isolated amongst paddy fields so great to chill out; guides Arman & Zanet enabled us to see close up mother and baby orang utan which was a massive highlight. Driver Godex & guide Deni Irawan made the remaining tour an amazing experience and should not be missed. Accomodation Sinabung Hills & Tabo Cottages were fantastic

We saw lots of animals and orangutans in the jungle.

Good experience - Very good experience 👌 We went jungle trekking 🐒 Everything was well organised, we had a picnic and later a tasty lunch in the jungle. Our guide Yoga has a big knowledge about the nature and animals there and was able to answer all our questions. We felt safe and well taken care of. I've noticed that both our guides (Yoga and Aga) have a big respect for the nature and wildlife. I even saw them picking up some small trash that they found on the way. Both very friendly and welcoming as all Indonesians that we met. The next day we had a village tour to see rice fields and production of brown sugar, tofu, tempeh and roof making. It was a good insight into the life of the villagers.
The only thing I missed in these 2 days was a bit more general information about the situation of rainforests, plantations, wildlife, maybe even economy and history. So that tourists don't leave the country as oblivious as they entered it.

Well planned out - Thanks Yoga & Aga for being great guides in Bukit Lawang. Everything was taken care of and we had a good amount of time to do our own exploring as well. There was a bit of a discrepancy in the itinerary that left me a little confused on what was going to happen next, but they always made sure to tell us what was going to happen the next day.

Unforgettable experience - We organized with them an 8-day tour that included trekking, a night in the jungle and exploring breathtaking landscapes. The guides and drivers were always available, professional and affable, making our trip authentic and full of moments of sharing. The Bukit Lawang location offers a cozy, well-kept and clean hotel with really great food. If you are planning a tour in the area, I highly recommend relying on them.

Fantastic Family Experience - Our family of four (parents and our 7 and 8 YOA kids) went on the seven day tour of North Sumatra. Before going, our kids only knew the city...after this trip they love the outdoors! We had two amazing hikes, one into the jungle to see orangutans and another up a volcano. Completely different experiences but both were amazing! The other days were filled with cultural activities and rest. There was a fair amount of driving between the three locations we visited (each about a four hour drive), but the driver and guide were always telling the significance of sights as we passed or stopped to look at them. Everyone we met was fantastic and went out of their ways to make our trip enjoyable, but we want to give a shoutout to Tondi! He was with us the entire trip, and he was full of interesting insights everywhere we went. Really we can't recommend this package enough, so many great memories!

Great experience! - It was great! We are just back from our tour, It was a great experience to see some highlights of north sumatra in a short time. We saw a lot of animals in the jungle, climb a vulcano and relaxt at lake toba. Our gide Kolong was great! A very friendly local that knows a lot about his beautiful country. He told us a lot about the places and the people we have seen. We also had a lot of fun with him. Also many thanks for the lovely people at the jungle! We feel very welcome. In this tour you dont have to worry about anything. You also get some time for yourself. We had a very good driver Simon. He was driving very safe. The traffic in sumatra is hard sometimes. Thank you so much for this experiene!

Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this tour - This tour was everything and even more than we expected!
It had perfect blend between a bit of adrenaline, getting out of comfort zone and time to chill and relax. There was not a second we would feel bored or over something, because tour is done in a wonderful way, where you get to experience jungle to its core, see animals (in jungle and while driving from one place to another), try local fruits and local cuisine (amazing by the way), nature, just EVERYTHING! We had quite a time to drive in the car, so use this time to ask any questions about Indonesia, culture, nature, history, politics, religion etc - we got to know more about local life than we ever would from National geographic.
The only thing that we needed to do - is to wake up, dress, grab bottle of water, go for breakfast and be on time to depart. Everything was taken care of, and if we wanted to hop in coffee shop or any other place, staff would make sure to arrange that.
This tour definitely will make you crave more of Indonesia!
The thing that we appreciated the most were people that took care of us - you are truly great hosts and guides! We truly felt like on a vacation, where we don't have to think and deal with problems - you always soved them once we asked for help. The mutual respect was there from the very first minute, and I am sure we made great friends at Indonesia.
We want to say huge thanks to manager Daddy Cool, to Mulgi and Anto who were guiding us through jungle and biggest thanks to our guide Konong who brought us to Berastagi and lake Toba. We can't thank you enough. As Jurijs said - you are a great guy and a great guide, and I can't agree with him more.
These people are just amazing, and we would redo the tour just to meet and spend some time with them again! :)
