This journey emphasizes the migration and mining past encapsulated in the distinct South Pass region: the high point for westward migrants on the Oregon, California, Mormon, and Pony Express National Historic Trails. The area was a focal point for native inhabitants, fur hunters, early governmental adventurers, and pioneers. Five episodes of prosperous and declining periods in gold, mineral, and ore mining have left an indelible mark of unique historical gems on the landscape.
