A super fun guide made this a super fun experience - Great fun and a safe way to experience the food and street food of Bolivia. Like all these trips, the success is down to the quality of the guide and Matt was terrific - fun, friendly and informative - he made the tour a 5 star experience. Highly recommended.

Walking food tour of La Paz - Marisol was our guide and she was fantastic. We started at the market and got introduced to Api and pastel - my now favourite Bolivian breakfast of spiced corn drink with crispy fried pastry filled with cheese. We did several other stops and we tried foods we would normally not have ordered on our own and they were delicious. She was very knowledgeable and answered all my tricky questions as I love cooking. I would highly recommend this tour and I think it was excellent value. I always love having a meal with a friendly local as you get a perspective of living in their country.

The highlight of our visit to La Paz! - Our tour guide Matt was awesome, he checked if anyone had food restrictions and made sure we were all comfortable with the dishes we were trying. I love that he explained the background of everything we ate and how the dishes differ from similar ones in surrounding countries. One of the places he had planned had run out of food so he was quick to shift gears and gave us several options to pick from to try instead. It was SO much food and it was included in the tour price which we loved.

Ask for Mateo (Matt), a knowledgeable 5 star food and walking English speaking tour guide - Mateo (Matt) is a top notch food and walking English speaking tour guide. His explanations provide the helpful background of the many items that we tried. His knowledge of the local neighborhood and street and food vendors added to the food tour’s enjoyment. We sampled 5 different providers ranging from a street vendor, food stalls and local restaurants. Without spoiling the experience, the foods hit all the favorite Bolivian dishes as well as a beer and tasty cocktail by the tour’s end. Additionally, the walking of the local neighborhood by San Francisco Cathedral allowed your body to help digest all the wonderful food that you just enjoyed. Mateo is a 5 star food and walking tour guide.

Alright - Alright then, gather 'round, because I've got a story about Red Cap Walking Tours in La Paz, Bolivia. Now, picture this: I've just landed in what feels like the highest city in the world - literally, not figuratively, because I'm sure there's still some place in the Himalayas that's got it beat. But La Paz? It's like stepping onto the set of a sci-fi film where the air's so thin, you think you've accidentally taken up smoking again.
So, I sign up for this Red Cap Walking Tour, thinking, "How hard can walking be at this altitude?" Very, apparently. But let's get to the review, shall we?
The Tour:
First off, the guides. They're like local superheroes without the capes but with red caps - very subtle branding. Our guide, let's call him Max because that was his name, was a walking encyclopedia but with the charisma of someone who's been through the wringer of Bolivian politics and come out the other side with a PhD in storytelling. Knowledgeable? Check. Entertaining? Double check.
The Sights:
We started at San Pedro Prison - not exactly the best place for a picnic, but fascinating. It was like walking through the plot of "Marching Powder" but with fewer chances of getting shanked. Then, the markets - witches included - because apparently, in La Paz, everyone's into a bit of magic, which is just the kind of nonsense you need when you're gasping for air.
The food tour part? Oh, that was a revelation. Imagine eating something that looks like it's been through a blender but tastes like heaven. And then, there's the cable car ride - or as I like to call it, the Bolivian roller coaster with less screaming.
The Experience:
Now, here's the kicker. These tours aren't free anymore, which is a bit like being told you have to pay for air up here. But for what you get, it's a bargain. You learn about the city, the culture, the history, all while trying not to pass out from the altitude.
The Crowd:
You meet all sorts on these tours. From the backpackers who've seen too many sunsets and lost their sense of direction to the retirees who think they're on a pilgrimage.
Score:
8 out of 10 - because even though it's brilliant, you still might want to pack an oxygen tank. And remember, the tour ends with a shot of Singani, which might just make you forget you're in one of the highest cities on Earth... until you try to walk home.
So, if you're in La Paz and fancy a stroll through the surreal, Red Cap Walking Tours is your man... or woman... or guide with a red cap. Just don't forget to tip - they're the ones helping you navigate this mad, beautiful mess.

The food tour was just... - The food tour was just okay. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel it was worth the price. The selection of food was decent, but there wasn’t much explanation or context provided. I had hoped to learn more about Bolivian cuisine and culture, but the tour guide didn’t seem particularly engaged or enthusiastic.
