Highlights
  • MeXplore Tours - We will meet at “Marina de La Paz” located in “Topete and Miguel de Legaspy” streets. It is VERY important to arrive on time.

Then we will give you all the gear you need: mask, snorkel, fins and wetsuit (shortie). After that we will depart to the whale shark area and request a spot in the control stand for the Whale Shark area.

Once we found one or more we will start the watching and snorkel activity. Our groups are 9 people maximum per boat, this ensures not crowded boats and a more professional and personalized service. We will do the snorkeling activity in groups of 2 to 4 at the same time on the water, so you have a comfortable experience. The guide will take turns with every group and you will be able to swim several times and very probable with more than one whale shark, the times you want to snorkel depends on you, we won’t limit you to jump in the water just 1 or 2 times as it can be usual with other tours.

Additional Information

Embrace an unrivaled experience in small groups capped at 9 individuals (compared to the ordinary tours that accommodate between 15-25 people per boat), sidestepping large gatherings and prolonged waiting time before having a swim with the whale sharks.

Merely minutes outside La Paz city, you’ll pursue, observe, and indulge in swimming with one or several whale sharks. Accompanied by a local marine biologist, you’ll be provided brief descriptions about these creatures and also have a chance to feature in captures and footages using a go pro, which we’ll digitally deliver to you after the tour.

Kindly note that the government regulated territory for whale sharks gets crowded at times, introducing a delay of about 1-3 hours before entering. All tour operators are subject to this potential wait time, the confirmation of which is only known on the day itself. Thankfully, about 95% of the time there is no wait time whatsoever, the remaining 5% may necessitate a wait. In this event, we’ll promptly communicate it to you upon arrival. Consequently, we request you to maintain a flexible schedule for the day to accommodate such unexpected delays.

  • Bring towel and warm clothes (VERY important Nov-March) and biodegradable sunscreen
  • Activity restricted for safety and federal regulations to: women in pregnancy, heart, neck and breathing problems
  • Freediving is not allowed due to Federal regulations, only snorkeling in the surface
  • In case of bad weather forecast, we will let you know 2-3 days in advance. In some cases the waves can be moderate causing a choppy ride, and on other days with high winds, the bay may be closed officially to all boat tours

Magical experience - Was simply amazing! Swimming with these beautiful large animals was just magical. Tour was very well organized - didn‘t feel rushed or chaotic at all. They had us put on our wetsuits before we left the harbour, so we were already fully prepared for when we reached the whale shark area. Carla and the captain took very good care of us - she was clearly very passionate about the animals, and also managed to keep up with the whale shark all the time! Prepare for some swimming exercise though - the sharks may not think they are swimming fast, but you definitely will!

10/10 - So awesome! Would recommend. They take you out in a small group and there are only a certain number of boats allowed out so as to not overcrowd or stress out the whale sharks. Was an amazing experience swimming next to them.

Leisurely swim up close and personal with the whalesharks - This tour far exceeded our expectations. In Exmouth, WA, we did a whaleshark cruise but they seemed to whizz by far too quickly as we struggled to swim as fast as we could to get a few extra seconds. Here, in La Paz, it was quite the opposite. We must have spent an hour swimming right next to a juvenile and infant whaleshark at the most leisurely pace. Carla and the crew were great. Highly recommended to any visitor to La Paz.

MeXplore Small Whaleshark snorkel trip was awesome! - We went with MeXplore for just the whaleshark snorkeling trip and had a wonderful time. Very professional, informative, and organized. We were supplied with shortie wetsuits (wear two if you get super cold like I do!), fins, snorkels, and snacks/drinks. There were just 8 guests in the boat. 4 could swim with the whaleshark at a time. Saw many whalesharks and got as close to them as we were allowed (within 6 feet). Carla, our marine biology student and guide, took pictures and emailed them to us for free! Highly recommend this company and small sized group.
