Awesome cooking experience in La Fortuna with Kevin and Melania of Costa Rica descents - What a fun class with Kevin and Melania!! We had an awesome time cooking fish ceviche, empanadas, patacone and enjoyed the meal with delicious salsa made ahead by Melania ! Kevin first gave us a tour of the organic garden in the back of their location. We got to learn about different types of cilantro, chillies, mandarin lime and even saw a cinnamon tree, a black pepper tree, avocado tree, and many more in their farm. It’s not a huge farm but big enough with lots of herbs, trees, even pigs and goats !! Truly great experience and their Costa Rican hospitality!! Plan for a 2-2 and half hours of total experience with prep, cooking and eating the meal. Highly recommend if you are in the La Fortuna area of Costa Rica.

Good eats, lovely location - When you arrive you're shown around the location's wonderfully diverse garden, there is an orange cat who is adorable. You get to see how sugar cane juice is made and try a little bit. I won't spoil the cooking process but it's fun! The food itself was lovely and as with all cooking classes it's rewarding to eat something that you made that you didn't know how to make a few hours ago

Great traditional cooking class - The cooking class was a lot of fun and the tour at the beginning through the garden and making sugar cane juice was also great! Unfortunately, the guide was a bit curt during the garden tour. And you have to note that the cooked food is very fatty… we made ceviche with empanadas and patacones. Unfortunately, the lady who guided us through the recipes barely spoke English, but she did a really great job and was very helpful!

Tasty Ceviche - Enjoyed the tour of the farm especially. And the ceviche was delicious. Not too much cooking though if you are here for that. Excellent chef on hand though

Average experience - The guy (who did speak English) seemed a little disinterested at first but became more engaged as the night went on. The first cooking lesson involved making cerache (fish item). We had told them ahead of time and again when we were there that we didn’t eat fish/meat but despite this we participated in the cutting of the vegetables for the cerache we didn’t get to taste. The 2nd part which was the making of empanadas was very cool. They had beans and cheese for us. It was cool to actually mash the corn powder and make the dough fresh. We each made our own empanadas but we had to “ mark ours” to identify ours later after frying. This was a bit of a nightmare as it was difficult to make anything on the soggy thin empanada crust and then hard to reacquire our empanada later after it had been fried. The women (chef) was super sweet but didn’t speak English and the man wasn’t really around for translation half the time. It was definitely average not super professional but lovely non the less.
