Highlight of our trip! - This was a trip highlight!! Chela is not only an amazing female entrepreneur but she’s a great cook and teacher as well! We had 9 of us ranging from 8 years old to 70 & EVERYONE enjoyed it! Chela is so great with the kids, keeping them involved and we all laughed and enjoyed each other and her. Her staff and property are top notch and the meal was outstanding! Do not miss your chance to experience this cooking class!

Authentic Costa Rica at its best!! - This was an absolutely incredible experience. Rural tourism at its best. The most beautiful part of Costa Rica is the people and this was such a wonderful intimate experience. It was incredible to meet Chela and hear her story and learn authentic Costa Rican cuisine with her in her amazing outdoor kitchen. My husband and I did it during our anniversary trip, but I’m dying to take my kids back. Her grandmother would be so proud!

An enjoyable and unique cultural experience for people at all age levels - We visited nice restaurants during our visit to Costa Rica, but this experience offered the best food and activity that the whole family loved. We started with a vegetable garden tour but all members of our "picky" group had a chance to indulge in a uniquely Costa Rican activity. Don't deliberate, this activity is a winner!

Perfect way to end our Costa Rica adventure! - Such a fun cooking experience with Chela and her lovely team! We learned how Chela got started with her business and her abuela’s impact on her life. From her special cookbook, she lets you choose which dishes you want to make, so our group chose the chicken, patacones, and empanadas. Cooking over the fogón (wood fire) was fun (and hot!). Everything we made was so delicious This was a wonderful way to spend our last evening in Costa Rica. Gracias, Chela! Pura vida!

A fabulous evening with lovely people in a beautiful setting - We had a wonderful evening and delicious meal at Fogón de Chela. Chela and her team were warm and welcoming, and took photos of us throughout our cooking experience so that we have some great souvenirs. A family of 4 shared the session with us, and we all took part together in the food preparation and cooking. We really enjoyed learning about Costa Rican food and culture in such a beautiful setting. We also had the opportunity to buy some carved wooden jewellery and other gifts from their maker before we left. There was no pressure to buy. This was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. Thank you Chela!

Hidden gem! - We loved this cooking class!!! Such an authentic experience with a great cooking team. Food was delicious and I’m so glad they offered a cookbook as a souvenir. Small group setting makes for a fun night. This is a hidden gem and you won’t be disappointed!

Delicious food and fun experience - We had a great time. Chela's restaurant is lovely, with an authentic old stove. We were taught how to make several typical Costa Rican dishes, which were all delicious! It was fun, and we enjoyed the privacy for our group of 10. Chela related a bit of her family history, and explained that she uses her grandmother's recipes and cooking techniques. Highly recommended!

Delicious food and amazing hosts! - Our group of 11 all agreed that this was the best meal we had in Costa Rica! We wish we had taken Chela's class earlier in our trip so that we could use what we learned to cook meals at our Airbnb. The food was absolutely delicious and the entire process was engaging—from prepping vegetables to cooking while enjoying a beer/juice, and all the while learning from Chela about Costa Rican food and culture and her life. We cooked rice, black beans, chicken, picadillo vegetable hash, spinach fritters, and sweet plantains in a beautiful indoor/outdoor setting. They also served our food with a fresh salad, hot sauces, and tamarind and sour guava juice. All the food was incredible but the spinach fritters were the highlight—we were glad we chose to make these instead of tortillas! Chela, Francela, and Julietta were warm, funny, and generous with their help and knowledge throughout the entire process. Don't miss this fantastic experience if you are in La Fortuna!
