Highlights
  • Arenal 1968 Volcano View & Trails - The tour starts with a hotel pickup followed by a 30-minute drive to the 1968 Arenal Volcano Park, where you will start your activity, a 2.5-hour hike to the base of Arenal Volcano. The hike is fairly easy and most of it is over flat ground. The goal is to arrive at a Dry lava field from 1968 eruption (this part of the trail is rocky), see it, talk about it and give you all the history about the Arenal Volcano.

  • La Fortuna Waterfall - Afterwards, you will be driven for another 30 minutes to reach La Fortuna Waterfall. The hike to the base of the waterfall has about 500 steps (which you will need to climb back up). Once at the base, you will have some time to swim and enjoy the waterfall.

  • Arenal Hanging Bridges - You will spend about 2.5 hours hiking in a primary rainforest, where you will cross about 16 hanging bridges called the Mistico Hanging Bridges. This hike in a large forest with nothing compared to the one in the Volcano Trails, so enjoy it as much as you can….. and remember it’s a Rainforest so expect rain, and bring your rain gear.

Passionate Guide Made For A Memorable Tour - I waited a few days for the impact of this tour to settle before writing my review. All I can say is bravo to our tour guide, Señor Juan Carlos 👏👏👏. Juan Carlos is educated on flora, fauna, and the history of the Arenal area. His passion and communication elevates the experience of this tour. I found myself sharing what I had learned from him days later with total strangers in a different part of the country. My biggest takeaway? I grew an appreciation of and respect for Costa Rica and its environment through him. Thank you for sharing that with me, Juan Carlos. On cost - yes, you could likely get by much cheaper if you were to visit each of these locations a la carte and explore on your own. Or perhaps even a different touring company. But the value of the experience is within the guide and I happily recommend this tour with Juan Carlos, Ronaldo (our driver), and GreenVacations. The group can also enhance the tour. I was a solo traveler in a group with two warm and welcoming families and one other solo traveler. The total experience was just wonderful over the 8 hours or so. A day well spent! The itinerary was logically scheduled with the Volcano hike first, followed by the Waterfall and concluding with the Hanging Bridges. It rained profusely one hour into our visit at the Hanging Bridges, but it made for the “rainforest” experience. Thank you for providing this experience opportunity!

Find time to do this activity! - Absolutely fantastic day! Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable, entertaining, and was always making sure we were having a great time. I strongly recommend this tour as you get to see incredible animals, swim at the Fortuna waterfall, eat a classic dish, and learn a ton about the history of the Arenal volcano. This is a must do. Shoutout Wilber!!

Great day in La Fortuna! - This tour was excellent. Angelica was a great tour guide. It’s a long and wonderful day seeing three of the best sites of La Fortuna. We were discussing afterwards what was our favorite of the three stops, and we couldn’t decide. All three stops were so different; all three stops were fabulous! Angelica knew a lot and had a lot of energy. The authentic lunch was just OK. I would recommend the La Fortuna area, and this tour to anyone. Hopefully you’ll be lucky enough to spend the day with Angelica.

Great time! - Beautiful scenery, clear water but slippery rocks. Wear water shoes. Lots of steps but worth the exercise.

Great way to see a lot in a day! - If you’re looking to see the wonders of La Fortuna and are limited in terms of days here, I would definitely recommend this tour. The tour consisted of a packed (and exhausting) day, starting at the 1968 Trail up part of the Arenal Volcano, learning some history of the volcano and seeing lots of flora and fauna along the way to stunning views from the top of the trail. After the hike, we changed into bathing suits and drove to La Fortuna Waterfall where we hiked down the 500 steps to the gorgeous waterfall, where we enjoyed a refreshing swim at the waterfall’s base for nearly an hour before making the much more tiring trip back UP the 500 steps. We were tired and our calves were sore by the time we reached the top, but the view and the dip were totally worth it. For us (2 parents and our two 20-something kids), this was the highlight of the day. From there, we changed back into hiking clothes, and headed to a soda and a traditional Costan Rican lunch. The day ended with a tour of Místico Hanging Bridges park. The park was beautiful; it was incredible to see the rain forest from above (and maybe also a little nerve-wracking for those afraid of heights); and we saw even more wildlife. Our guide, Will (Wilbur), was very helpful and funny, and clearly especially loved the snakes encountered in the Hanging Bridges park that day. His enthusiasm was palpable. This isn’t an “adrenaline rush” kind of experience, rather more informative and a chance to see an array of Costa Rica’s beauty in one day. If you’re not in La Fortuna long but want to see as much as possible, this is a great way to go.

Perfect way to see La Fortuna! - Diego was our tour guide and he did an excellent job! We did so much in one day and since we were in La Fortuna for only 2 days this was a perfect way to see a lot of what the area has to offer. The volcano hike was fun and we saw lots of interesting birds. I will say it is a more intensive hike if you go at a faster pace, but for my group it was perfect as it felt like a workout but was enjoyable getting to see the scenery. We stopped at a coffee shop and I had the guaco sour with passionfuit which was excellent, especially since it had the view of the volcano. Next we went to the La Foutna waterfall and had time to swim and take pictures -- again there were many stairs to go up and down but if you do your research on the areas ahead of time this should not be a surprise, so just come prepared to do some physical activity. Then we had an authentic costa rican lunch at a local spot which was yummy! And the day ended with the Mistico hanging bridges, which was my favorite part! It rained a lot towards the end but since it is a rain forest that is expected, so bring your rain gear! We saw so many animals on this trip and Diego was so knowledable about the area and animals, plus he was so good at spotting them.
