Additional Information

Kazarimaki is a technique used in sushi roll preparation, often referred to as Art sushi roll in the English language.

This specific type of sushi, featuring a charming peach-blossom design, not only delights the palate but also pleases the eye.

It is highly appealing due to its attractive multi-colored appearance!

The fundamental components are rice vinegar, sugar, sesame, ginger, vegetables, and nori seaweed. The food colorings used here are of plant origin:

  • The red color is derived from the mold on fermented red rice;
  • Blue is obtained from select types of algae;
  • Yellow gets its hue from a product of the gardenia fruit;
  • The orange emanates from Japanese mustard;
  • The colors of green/yellow and blue are derived from gardenia fruit extracts.
  • A minimum of 2 people per booking is required
  • operated by English speaker
  • This is the private class

Inspired to Make Sushi Art at Home - I've experienced a sushi art class elsewhere on a previous trip, but this one was better because the steps were easy to follow, the instructor and her husband (tool pics for us and did the clean up and dishes) spoke in English clearly, and were simply delightful! My friends (from CA, and on their first visit to Japan) and I (from Hawaii and my 11th trip to Japan) are so inspired to make sushi return we return! We found the ingredients needed to color the rice at a nearby supermarket so we bought some to bring home. My daughter, her husband, and in-laws.are planning a trip to Jaoan in Decmeber, and I will definitely recommend this class to them. 😊👍

A great experience for the family - Our family, including 2 boys aged 15 and 14, really enjoyed this class. It was fun and just a little tiny bit challenging, with the bonus of some yummy sushi at the end. Aya was very welcoming and it was wonderful to learn more about Japanese culture in this personalised environment.

If I could give more than five stars I would - This was truly one of the highlights of our time in Japan. We were a group of six to include grandparents and two teen age girls. Not only are Aya and her husband fantastic host and it was a real treat and honor to be able to be in their home, the experience was fun and engaging! The final result was almost (almost) too pretty to eat. My parents are still talking about how much fun they had. I’m so so glad we were able to do this.

If I could give more than five stars I would - We are traveling as a family with two teen girls and grandparents. This was a truly fun and special experience being able to cook together but also to be hosted in a traditional home made it truly unique. Aya and her husband were not only gracious hosts but wonderful teachers. We had so much fun and feel that this was one of the highlights of our time in Japan.

A fantastic experience - We signed up the children in our group (ages 12-16, one boy and three girls, from two families) for the sushi roll class and they had a fantastic time. Even putting on the attire was a transformative experience for them; Aya did a wonderful job with the girls’ hair in particular. Everybody had a great time and learned something new about making sushi rolls. Overall, it was a relaxing change of pace from the sight-seeing rush. I think the photos give a good flavour for the experience. I highly recommend signing up for one of the many experiences on offer here.

A fun hour of sushi making - Ava is a Master of Sushi making and it was lovely to share her skill. She was very patient with us, but perhaps this is for people who know a little about making sushi already. Her home is delightful and we felt very welcome.
