Additional Information

The standard route to Kyajo Ri via the South West Ridge begins at the base camp positioned approximately 4,600 meters above sea level. The path to Camp 1, located above 5,300 meters, takes about two hours and involves hiking over a grassy knoll and rocks. The journey from Camp 1 to Camp 2 requires some technical mountaineering rated French Alpine (AD+) on blended slope faces reaching up to 55? and crosses a glacier. Ascending from Camp 2 to the Kyajo Ri peak at 6,186 meters, previously rated as French Alpine Grade D, involves a 15-hour round trip along a glacial crest, dealing with combined rock and sheets of ice reaching up to 60?.

Kyajo Ri isn’t as demanding neither as it is tall as Ama Dablam, but it does necessitate establishing multiple camps higher than the base camp, thus it isn’t a short ownership of a high camp. For those seeking a more challenging and ‘fulfilling’ Himalayan journey, this could be the ideal choice compared to some of the more popular ‘trekking’ peaks. Our goal is to scale in ‘Expedition Style’ using fixed lines.
