- Kuala Sepetang - Kuala Sepetang is a coastal town in Perak, Malaysia, located about 60 minutes or 72 km/45 miles northwest of Ipoh city. It is a bustling fishing village and the main departure point to the river mouth community of Kuala Sangga, a Chinese fishing community specializing in fish breeding in cages. The Port Weld railway station was once at the town’s center. The entire railway line from here to Taiping, the first railway line in the Peninsular, has been dismantled, leaving only the ticketing booth and the Port Weld railway signboard.
- Charcoal Factory & Souvenirs Shop Kuala Sepetang - The charcoal factory in Matang (Kuala Sepetang) has been situated in the heart of a stunning mangrove forest since 1940. Mangrove forests are vital to ecosystems worldwide, and Malaysia is fortunate to have preserved many. The process begins with harvesting mangrove trees, which reach the required size after 30 years. Once an area is harvested, new trees are planted, and the area remains untouched for another 30 years.
Ever wondered how charcoal is made and what is needed? This is a great opportunity to gain additional knowledge. The charcoal factory is owned by Mr. Chuah, who has received excellent feedback online for his ability to share his story and passion for charcoal. Every process in the factory is manually done by human power. Charcoal production is a lengthy process requiring significant manpower.
