Ephesus - The Celcus Library

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ephesus is among the world’s most significant ancient cities. During the Roman era, it served as the capital and the economic hub of Asia Minor. As a crucial part of the King Road - one of three ancient global trade routes, along with the Silk and Spice Roads - it marks the route’s start and finish point. Visitors can expect to see impressive temples, libraries, and other structures from the Roman period.

Perched atop Bulbul mountain sits The House of Mother Mary. It’s believed that Mother Mary spent her final years in this sacred place. Catholic tradition holds that after Jesus’s crucifixion, St. John the Apostle brought Mother Mary from Jerusalem to Ephesus. Upon their arrival, they found the house had been destroyed by an earthquake. After the reconstruction of The House of Virgin Mary into a church, the site received visits from Pope Paul VI in 1967 and Pope John Paul II in 1979, cementing its status as a pilgrimage destination.
