Highlights
  • Kruja Castle - We drive to the historic city of Kruja. Drive you up to Kruja town, where you’ll experience a step back in medieval history by visiting the castle and Scanderbeg Museum. Kruja was the most important town for the Albanians during the 15th century which withstood successfully to at least 3 major sieges by the Ottoman Empire. The medieval hero Gjergj Kastrioti called “Scanderbeg” is considered not only by Albanians as a symbol of resistance and savior but also by ottomans who believed that a supernatural force dwelt in him. Walk in the Old Bazaar full of old shops that sell traditional handmade items.
  • Durres - We will drive to Durres. Explore the city’s 1930’s architecture as you walk along the boulevard. Visit the Ethnographic Museum and its artifacts displayed on the second floor of a traditional house from the 19th century. It exhibits authentic objects of hand-crafts as well as a rich collection of Albanian traditional costumes. Next, you will visit the Roman Amphitheater from the 2nd century AD, built during the reign of the Emperor Trajan as one of the biggest amphitheaters in Balkans. The Roman Amphitheater and the city of Durres are unusual for their extraordinary degree of preservation, particularly for its large stretches of undisturbed stratigraphy. On the way to the archaeological museum you can admire the Byzantine Wall, an engineering masterpiece, built during the reign of Emperor Anastasius ( VI cent AD ) whose origin was from Durres, and the seaside promenade enjoying the view of the largest bay in Albania. The Byzantine Chapel is your next stop and the, the Venetian Tower .

Albania was one of my favourite contries that year. - I had the pleasure of doing a few days in Albania with Adam from Albania Express Travel. We walked around in Tirana and the knowledge he has about his country's capital blew me away. We also did a day trip to Kruje with a stop in Fushë-Kruje on the way. It was very interesting to see nature and hear about the history of the country. And again, it wouldn't have been the same without Adam. All in all, I am absolutely sure that he played a big part of me falling in love with Albania... which I honestly hadn't expected. I'm a full-time traveller and Albania was one of the favourite countries that year. I want to go back and see much more – and I am sure that my action in preparing for that is to contact Albania Express Travel. I did three episodes of my podcast about my visit. Enjoyable and Imformative Tour - While waiting to be picked up for the tour, we were expecting to join a big group. However, we were the only ones going. Our own private tour! Adam the tour guide, from the start right through to drop off was excellent. He couldn't do enough for us. Not only did he have lots of detailed information about the towns we visited he also gave us tips and hints for places not included in the tour. We also had an off agenda stop at 'George Bush Town' (Google it). Adam also helped us buy a hand made rug to take home (something that we wanted to do when arriving in Albania) - particularly helpful in Kruje with so many shops offering their wares. In terms of the places visited, Kruje was my favourite - a quaint and picturesque town with a castle and fairly cool Skanderbeg museum. Durres was nice and seeing the old amphitheatre enjoyable. We enjoyed the tour so much that we booked another tour with Adam to go to Berat the next day. A worthwhile and enjoyable tour!
