- Preah Vihear Temple - Located on the edge of a plateau overlooking the Cambodian plains, the Temple of Preah Vihear is dedicated to Shiva. This temple features a series of sanctuaries connected by pavements and staircases along an 800-meter axis, dating back to the first half of the 11th century AD. Its history, however, can be traced back to the 9th century when the hermitage was established. The site is well-preserved due to its remote location and is renowned for its architectural quality, which harmonizes with the natural environment and religious purpose, as well as its exquisite stone carvings.
- Koh Ker Temple - Koh Ker served as the capital of the Khmer Empire briefly from 928-941 C.E. under King Jayavarman IV. The Koh Ker inscription provides the only authentic contemporary insight into Angkor’s political ideology, marking a shift from ‘rāja’ (king) to ‘rājya’ (kingdom and its people). During Jayavarman IV’s peaceful reign, no wars were fought, allowing for a cultural renaissance. This peace enabled him to undertake regional, social, economic, and architectural projects, including town planning and rural infrastructure, as evidenced by the monuments at Koh Ker.
- Prasat Pram - This small temple is relatively well-preserved, with three remaining sanctuary towers and two libraries. Although the enclosure walls are intact, the temple’s east gopura is missing, except for its foundation stones. The exact construction date is unknown as the temple was never fully completed, with unfinished lintels above all five doorways.
- Beng Mealea - Beng Mealea is one of the most atmospheric Angkor temples near Siem Reap. A central tower lies in ruins, with vines and roots gradually enveloping walls adorned with ancient Khmer art. Through the dappled light of large trees growing through the ruins, impressive carvings hint at the temple’s former significance.
