Preah Khan - Preah Khan, meaning “Royal Sword,” is a temple located in Angkor, Cambodia. Constructed in the 12th century for King Jayavarman VII to honor his father, it is situated northeast of Angkor Thom and just west of the Jayatataka baray, with which it was associated. The temple served as the center of a large organization, comprising nearly 100,000 officials and servants. Its design is flat, featuring a basic layout of successive rectangular galleries surrounding a Buddhist sanctuary, complemented by Hindu satellite temples and numerous later additions. Similar to the nearby Ta Prohm, Preah Khan remains largely unrestored, with many trees and other vegetation growing among the ruins.

Ta Prohm - Ta Prohm, meaning “ancestor of Brahma,” is the modern name for a temple at Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. Built in the Bayon style primarily in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, it was originally called Rajavihara (“royal monastery”). Located about one kilometer east of Angkor Thom and on the southern edge of the East Baray, it was established by Khmer King Jayavarman VII as a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Ta Prohm remains largely in the condition in which it was found, with its photogenic and atmospheric blend of trees growing out of the ruins and jungle surroundings making it one of Angkor’s most popular temples among visitors. UNESCO inscribed Ta Prohm on the World Heritage List in 1992. Today, it is one of the most visited complexes in Cambodia’s Angkor region. The conservation and restoration of Ta Prohm is a collaborative project between the Archaeological Survey of India and the APSARA.

Bayon Temple - The Bayon, or Prasad Bayon, is a richly adorned Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia. Constructed in the late 12th or early 13th century as the state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon is located at the center of Jayavarman’s capital, Angkor Thom. Following Jayavarman’s death, it was modified and expanded by subsequent Theravada Buddhist kings to reflect their own religious preferences.
The Bayon’s most distinctive feature is the multitude of serene and smiling stone faces on the numerous towers that extend from the upper terrace and cluster around its central peak. The temple features two sets of bas-reliefs, depicting a mix of mythological, historical, and everyday scenes. The main conservatory body, the Japanese Government Team for the Safeguarding of Angkor (JSA), has described the temple as “the most striking expression of the baroque style” of Khmer architecture, in contrast to the classical style of Angkor Wat.
