Highly recommend this tour - The experience of the olive tour was amazing, authentic, and truly one of a kind!! The acres of olive trees and other plants was incredibly fascinating to walk through and learn the complicated family history of. We also learned so much about the process of traditional Cretan olive oil making; this included a walk through of the factory where the olive oil is produced which was truly impressive and educational. Then, our time at the taverna was an amazing couple of hours of enjoying traditional food and learning the factors that go into evaluating extra virgin olive oils. We have talked about this tour since we took it, and are still evaluating the different olive oils we come across using what Nikos taught us. Quintessential Cretan Experience - So glad we chose to do this tour having met Nikos on the first night at our hotel and tasted some of his products including of course the wonderful olives. It was a great day out and a real insight into not only olive cultivation and production but gave a flavour of the rural and agricultural traditions of Crete both past and present. The walk through the groves, stopping to eat olives and drink raki under gnarled old trees, was relaxing and educational as Nikos clearly explained how the trees are maintained, irrigated and pruned. Equally good was the stop at the olive mill where Iannis walked us through the intake, cleaning, pressing and bottling before we took another walk down the hill for lunch, stopping to eat figs, carob and grapes and pick wild herbs. The day finished with a long (and very tasty) lunch in the shade at Paradeisos Taverna and more raki following by an olive oil tasting which was really eye-opening and will definitely have us thinking about how we buy, taste and consume it going forward. Highlight of our trip to Crete, it was absolutely amazing! - It was an amazing trip. First we went to a field with lots of olive trails. Nikos told us everything we needed to know about the olive. We drank Raki and ate some delicious olives. Afterwards we went to an olive oil factory which was also very intresting. At the end we got to know the differences between good and bad olive oils and we cooked some traditional tasty food which we ate afterwards. We recommend this trip 100%!

Fantastic experience in Crete - Highly recommend if you have the time for it. These are two fantastic experiences you won't regret. Nico is amazing. He'll make sure you learn and understand everything you need to about olive oil and the culture behind it. Like wine tasting, you will olive oil taste a few options and he'll teach you what to look for. Finally, the food they will prepare you is so authentics and fresh, it doesn't get any better. The drive was worth the experience 100%.

Fabulous authentic Cretin experience - My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our day walking through the olive groves and learning about the oil making process. The authentic Greek lunch was delicious and we learned how olive oil is used in several different dishes. Nikos was easy to understand and explained everything in an interesting and engaging way. The manufacturing process is quite fascinating! I now know what to look for in an olive oil. Highly recommended tour

Olive grove tour - We had a fantastic day with Nikos. From the history of the olive groves right the way through to the final tasting, his knowledge and kindness could not be faulted. We learned so much about the trees, the local area, the process of olive oil bottling and the origins of the groves, without once feeling either rushed or bored. The hospitality shown to us at Paridisos was so generous and friendly. The food was mainly freshly picked from their own gardens, simple and absolutely delicious. A huge thank you to everyone for making us feel so welcome. Definitely a highlight of our trip and would recommend to everyone.

What's not to love about this experience? - It is fair to say that I will never look at olives and olive oil in the same way ever again after this informative, enlightening and all round enjoyable adventure, 'The Olive Trail', with Nikos Plevritakis. From olive groves, olive trees, olives, olive oil production and olive oil tasting to local produce and food enjoyed at the aptly named Paradise Restaurant, all under the expert tuition of Nikos and accompanied by sunshine and blue sky, this was the highlight of the holiday by far. Authentic Olive Oil and Cretan Experience - While honeymooning in Elounda, it was recommended we check out this tour with Nikos. We were looking to learn more about olive oil making in the region. The tour went well above and beyond. We had a private tour with Nikos who taught us so much about the olive oil industry in the region as well as other aspects of the agriculture in the area. He is very knowledgeable and truly enjoyed answering all of our questions while being a great host for the day. After spending the morning walking through an olive grove and touring a local village and olive mill, we enjoyed participating in cooking (and eating) lunch at the local restaurant. We left we a great appreciation for Cretan olive oil as well as the history and food in the region. We highly recommend this tour if you are looking to learn more about olive oil and Cretan culture!
