Plaszow Concentration Camp - Established by Nazi German occupiers in October 1942 on the grounds of two Jewish cemeteries, Plaszow Camp initially served as a forced-labor camp for Jews from the liquidated Kraków Ghetto. It later expanded to include Polish prisoners and was reclassified as a concentration camp in January 1944. It also acted as a transit camp for Hungarian Jews deported to Auschwitz.
Over 35,000 individuals were imprisoned here, with approximately 6,000 murdered. Executions occurred at various locations within the camp; today, mass graves and memorials quietly mark the landscape.
During this guided tour, an expert guide reconstructs the camp’s layout using existing remnants: the Grey House, ruins of the pre-burial hall, traces of the former Jewish cemeteries, the roll-call square, and paths once paved with gravestone fragments. Visitors will pause at significant memorials, including the Monument of Torn-Out Hearts, while learning about the camp’s division into living, hospital, administrative, and industrial zones.
