Additional Information

Kazimierz, Kraków’s historically Jewish neighborhood, is among the most well-preserved Jewish communities in Europe. Named in honor of Kazimierz the Great, Poland’s last Piast and one of its most significant monarchs, this district once operated as an autonomous city. In the 15th century, it thrived as a hub for Jewish religious activity and cultural life, owing to policies of religious openness that attracted Jewish exiles from around Europe. Although few Jewish inhabitants remain today, Kazimierz’s Jewish legacy is vibrant, serving as Krakow’s artistic nexus and featuring an array of pubs, cafes, and Jewish-inspired eateries that encapsulate its unique ambiance. A tour guide can highlight recognizable locations from the Oscar-winning film ‘Schindler’s List,’ filmed on-location in this area.
