Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau - The visit starts as you enter through the gate of Auschwitz I, the initial camp established by the Germans in 1940 as a detention center for Polish citizens following the country’s annexation. Above the entrance is the notorious sign Arbeit Macht Frei (“Work Makes You Free”), one of the camp’s most recognizable symbols.
This segment of the tour lasts around two hours, with each participant equipped with a headset to clearly hear the guide’s commentary. In accordance with the Museum’s regulations, groups are limited to a maximum of 30 people, ensuring a more intimate and accessible experience.
During the tour, visitors will see original wooden barracks, watchtowers, barbed wire fences, as well as gas chambers and crematoria. These poignant sites leave a lasting impression, offering a sobering insight into the magnitude of the Holocaust. - Brzezinka - Following a brief intermission, the tour continues to Auschwitz II-Birkenau, located just a few minutes away. This largest section of the camp, constructed in 1941 under Heinrich Himmler’s orders, could accommodate up to 90,000 prisoners and became the primary site of mass extermination.
The guide will describe the harsh living conditions, brutal selections, and experiments conducted by Nazi doctors such as Josef Mengele. The tour concludes with the story of the camp’s liberation on January 27, 1945 – a powerful reminder that such tragedies must never be repeated.
- Krakow - At the end of the tour, there is no rush. A minimum 20-minute break is provided, which can be spent in a bookstore, grocery store, or simply resting. After another 1 hour and 15 minutes on the road, you will be returned to a designated location in Krakow.
