Additional Information

Embarking from Kotor or Tivat, the tour begins with a car trip uphill along the serpentine road constructed in the 19th century by the Austrians. This 35km road has 25 turns and offers a panoramic view of the Kotor Bay; it takes approximately 1.30 hours to reach the start point at the mausoleum’s base. Here, a short hike of 461 steps will bring you to the Njegos statue and his tomb. Once the visit is over, we head to a local eatery for a beverage.

The cycling phase begins at the restaurant, where the first 10 kilometers include downhill stretches and a couple of minor uphill routes leading to the Krstac Pass, boasting expansive views of Kotor Bay. For those in search of thrill, a 400-meter long zipline awaits. From here, the route descends gently 25km down to the city of Kotor, on a road under the protection of UNESCO. Throughout the descent, you will stop at intervals to capture stunning photographs and admire the beauties of Kotor and Tivat Bay.

Please note that this road is shared with vehicles, thus caution is advised.

The best way to enjoy Njegos Mausoleum - This tour was an incredible way to enjoy the Njegos Mausoleum and the views of Kotor. At every turn there was a new breathtaking view! We booked this tour last minute and they accommodated our tight departure schedule. Our guide, Ivana was fun, very knowledgeable about the area. There were no hidden fees - the price included all entrance fees and the taxi ride up the mountain.

A memorable experience! - I did this tour when my cruise ship was in port for the day. I've been on 30 cruises and have done dozens of shore excursions and this tour was one of the most memorable. The views and experience were absolutely stunning and I enjoyed learning more about Montenegro and Kotor. Not only was the experience itself amazing, the pre-tour communication and logistics were top-notch. Once you're dropped off at the top of the mountain, you have the option of climbing the 461 steps to the mausoleum and it's well worth it. I'm posting a pano image that I hope renders well on this site. Afterwards, you have a snack at the lookout restaurant (included), before starting the descent which was safe and well controlled. Although it was a warm summy day, the combination of altitude and breeze on the bike make it very comfortable. We ended the ride back at the port.

Breathtaking Views & Wonderful Guide - The Njegos Mausoleum is a must-see, and the views down are a spectacular perspective of Kotor and the surrounding bays. Seeing as we went in April, we had an exhilarating experience witnessing the snowy peaks of the mountain all the way down to a warm spring breeze at the bottom. We were having a great time going down the mountain; you can go as fast or as slow as you’d like. It’s certainly for both adrenaline seekers and casual cyclists as you’re almost fully going downhill. He made sure to go at our pace, and emphasized safety. Our guide Milija was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable about the country’s/city’s history, so that was definitely an added benefit. Loved hearing all the stories; thank you again for an excellent tour, and I definitely recommend to all are even mildly interested!!
