• Maulana Azad College - Established in 1926, Maulana Azad College is a government-administered liberal arts and science college located in central Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Situated near the intersection of Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road and SN Banerjee Road, known as “Lotus crossing,” it is affiliated with the University of Calcutta.
• Sacred Heart Church - The Portuguese influence in Bengal is still evident in Kolkata, though it often goes unrecognized. Interestingly, an attempted murder, or at least a street altercation between two Europeans in colonial Calcutta, indirectly led to the construction of the Portuguese Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

In 1821, near the Old Chowringhee Theatre in Calcutta, Luis De Souza fired a gun inside a horse carriage, seriously injuring Joseph Gonsalves. De Souza was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Upon hearing this, his mother prayed for his life and vowed to build a church if her prayers were answered. Her son avoided capital punishment but was imprisoned for ten years.

After De Souza’s release, she laid the church’s foundation stone on February 12, 1832. The church was completed in two years, and its consecration took place on Easter Sunday, March 30, 1834.

• Tipu Sultan Masjid Kolkata - The Tipu Sultan Shahi Mosque, also known as Tipu Sultan Masjid, is a renowned mosque in Kolkata, India, named after Tipu Sultan, the ruler of Mysore. The mosque is a testament to architectural and cultural heritage.

The mosque was built by his 11th son, Prince Gholam Mohammed. Although Tipu Sultan was the ruler of Mysore, his youngest son constructed this mosque in Calcutta in memory of his father. The history behind this is significant.

Tipu Sultan, the ruler of the South Indian Deccani Kingdom of Mysore, engaged in several wars with the British East India Company. After the final war, Tipu died on the battlefield, and six years later, his entire family was exiled to Calcutta by the British Government. During this time, the capital of Mysore, Srirangapatnam, was captured by the British Army. Gholam Mohammed, Tipu Sultan’s son, was a child when he arrived in Calcutta. He grew up to be a man of diverse talents.

• Lord Jesus Church - Located in Taltala, a central locality in Kolkata, the Lord Jesus Church is a Catholic church. Originally a Church of Scotland Presbyterian place of worship, it was handed over to the Jesuits in 1969, who transformed it into a center for various apostolic activities.
