As I embarked on the Kolkata Heritage Tour, I was filled with anticipation. Kolkata, a city that has long intrigued me with its rich tapestry of history and culture, was finally within my grasp. The tour promised an intimate exploration of the city’s iconic landmarks, and it did not disappoint.

Our journey began at the majestic Victoria Memorial, a stunning marble edifice that stands as a testament to Kolkata’s colonial past. Lunch at Oh! Calcutta was a delightful experience, offering a taste of authentic Bengali cuisine. The traditional dishes, served in a sophisticated setting, were a culinary journey in themselves. Afterward, a brief shopping excursion at the Forum Mall provided a modern contrast to the historical sites we had visited.

Spiritual Reflections and Sunset Splendor

Our afternoon took us to the Mother House, the headquarters of the Missionaries of Charity. Here, I gained valuable insights into the life and work of Mother Teresa, a woman whose selfless service has touched countless lives. The museum, filled with her personal belongings and teachings, was a humbling experience.

The visit to Jorasanko Thakur Bari, the ancestral home of Rabindranath Tagore, was a highlight of the tour. This historic mansion, now a museum, offered a glimpse into the life and works of the legendary Nobel laureate. The artifacts and manuscripts on display provided a deeper understanding of the Thakur family’s contributions to Indian literature, music, and art.

As the day drew to a close, we arrived at Princep Ghat to witness a mesmerizing sunset over the Hooghly River. The iconic Vidyasagar Setu served as a stunning backdrop, and the riverside ambience was the perfect setting for reflection. Enjoying snacks at Scoops, I savored the moment, grateful for the opportunity to explore the heart and soul of Kolkata.
