- Chinese Fishing Nets - Known locally as Cheena vala, these stationary lift nets are a distinctive feature in India. They are fixed land installations used for fishing, commonly referred to as “Chinese fishing nets” in India, but formally known as “shore operated lift nets.” These impressive structures extend horizontal nets over 20 meters wide, supported by mechanical contraptions. Each installation stands at least 10 meters tall, featuring a cantilever with a net suspended over the sea and large stones as counterweights. Operated by a team of up to six fishermen, these nets are prevalent in coastal southern China and Indochina, but in India, they are primarily found in Kochi and Kollam, where they attract tourists. This unique fishing method was introduced by Chinese explorers and is rare in India, almost exclusive to this region. The remaining 1 hour and 20 minutes are allocated for transportation between all sightseeing attractions.
