• Chinese Fishing Nets - Known locally as Cheena vala, these stationary lift nets are a distinctive feature in India. Often referred to as “Chinese fishing nets,” their formal name is “shore operated lift nets.” These impressive structures, spanning over 20 meters, are held by large mechanical devices. Standing at least 10 meters tall, each installation features a cantilever with a net extended over the sea, balanced by large stones as counterweights. A team of up to six fishermen operates each setup.
