- Chinese Fishing Nets - Known locally as Cheena vala, these stationary lift nets are a distinctive feature in India. They are fixed land installations used for fishing, formally referred to as “shore operated lift nets.” These impressive structures extend horizontal nets over 20 meters wide, supported by a cantilever system that stands at least 10 meters tall. Large stones act as counterweights, and each setup is managed by a team of up to six fishermen. While prevalent in coastal southern China and Indochina, in India, they are primarily found in Kochi and Kollam, where they attract tourists. This unique fishing method was introduced by Chinese explorers in the 14th century, and one theory suggests the name Kochi means ‘like China.’
- Fort Kochi Beach - Located along the Arabian Sea, Fort Kochi Beach is a scenic spot in Fort Kochi, within the city of Kochi, Kerala, South India.
- Dutch Cemetery - A notable site in Fort Kochi, the Dutch Cemetery is renowned for its historical significance, housing the remains of imperial settlers who arrived centuries ago. Consecrated in 1724, it is now maintained by the Church of South India and is surrounded by intriguing stories.
- Church of Saint Francis - Situated in Fort Kochi, St. Francis Church, built in 1503, is one of India’s oldest European churches. It holds historical importance as it witnessed the European colonial era. The Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama died here in 1524, and his body was initially interred in this church before being moved to Lisbon after fourteen years.
- Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica - Located in Fort Kochi, the Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica is one of Kerala’s eight Basilicas. Recognized as a heritage structure, it is among India’s most impressive churches, drawing visitors year-round.
- Indo-Portuguese Museum - This museum in Fort Kochi, Kerala, India, showcases the Indo-Portuguese cultural heritage.
- Maritime Museum Kochi - This museum explores India’s naval history, featuring warship models, artillery, and uniforms.
- Mattancherry Palace - Also known as the Dutch Palace, this Portuguese palace in Mattancherry, Kochi, Kerala, displays Kerala murals and exhibits of the Rajas of Kochi. It is listed as a tentative UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Paradesi Synagogue - The oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations, the Paradesi Synagogue, built in 1568, is located in Kochi, Kerala. It serves the Malabar Yehudan or Cochin Jewish community.
- Cochin Spice Market - A straightforward shop offering a wide range of exotic spices in bulk, with polished displays.
- Jain Temple - A significant Jain worship site, known for its daily pigeon show and feeding at noon.
- Bastion Bungalow - A popular tourist attraction in Kochi, near Vasco da Gama Square in Fort Kochi, India. Bastion Bungalow exemplifies Indo-European architecture, primarily Dutch style, and currently serves as the Sub-Collector’s official residence.

Amazing host - We had an absolutely lovely time on Saleem’s tuk tuk tour in Fort Kochi. From the moment we set off, Saleem made us feel welcome and completely at ease. His genuine warmth, deep local knowledge, and quiet pride in Fort Kochi brought the place to life in a way no guidebook ever could.
The tour moved at a perfect, unhurried pace, weaving through charming streets, historic landmarks, and everyday neighbourhoods, with plenty of time to stop, explore, and take photos. Saleem shared fascinating stories about the area’s history, culture, and traditions, while also offering a real glimpse into local life. The tuk tuk was clean and comfortable, and we felt safe throughout the journey.
This experience felt personal and authentic — more like being shown around by a friend than being on a tour. If you’re visiting Fort Kochi and want to truly connect with its character and stories, I highly recommend Saleem’s tuk tuk tour.

Excellent tour - We had a wonderful experience with Samad’s tuk tuk tour in Fort Kochi. It was a relaxed and enjoyable way to explore the area, especially the hidden lanes and local spots you wouldn’t normally find on your own. Samad was friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to share stories about Fort Kochi’s history, culture, and everyday life.
The tour was well-paced, with plenty of time to stop for photos, walk around, and really take in the atmosphere. From heritage buildings and quiet backstreets to lively markets and waterfront views, everything felt thoughtfully included. The tuk tuk itself was clean and comfortable, and the ride felt safe throughout.
If you’re visiting Fort Kochi and want an authentic, local perspective without feeling rushed, I’d highly recommend Samad’s tuk tuk tour. It’s a fun, informative, and memorable way to experience the charm of Fort Kochi

Great way to see the sights in Fort Kochi - Sherief and Sudir were wonderful guides. This tour is a great opportunity to see historical sites, purchase some gifts and spices in locally-benefited shops, and also some genuinely unique experiences such as the operational laundry.
Highly recommend. Do it!

Great way to get around Fort Kochi - We had Nazir on our first morning to take us around Fork Kochi, he knew the area and it’s history and spoke English well, was a very enjoyable morning
We then had Shina, Nazir’s brother. Shina took us out a couple of times, was very helpful and took us to where we wanted to go, and suggested a place for lunch that had lovely food (FusionBay)

Fun ride around Fort Kochi - Nava was our local guide . He was well aware of the history. Took us to interesting places and also suggested us good to places to shop spices and some handicrafts. He was kind enough to accommodate our wandering off to buy postcards, stamps and some curiosities around the town.
He could decently speak Tamil and Malayalam, English could have been better.
It was a pleasant ride around Ford Kochi visiting various places and curious streets of the old town. Nava even suggested a good place for lunch after our half - day tuk tuk tour. Overall a fun experience 👍🏼

Salim is a good and safe driver of his rickshaw and knows the history - Salim picked us up at the exit of the public ferry.
He drove us to the most beautiful places on the island of Fort Kochi like there are the Chinese Fishing Nets (who were working at that time), Dutch Cemetery, Santa Cruz Cathedral, St Francis Church, Jain Temple, Mattancherry Palace, Jew Town, Paradesi Synagogue....
He gave professional explanations about the history of the places.
Only downside is that there are also several shops and addresses to visit and possibly bargains. This is a standard with such tours sus you take it without further ado.
Salim nevertheless provided a light-hearted chat about life in Fort Kochi and gave us a nice tour.
We definitely recommend others to explore the island with him.
