Exploring Munnar: A Family Adventure Through Tea Plantations and Waterfalls

When I stumbled upon the Munnar Mountain Hiking adventure, I knew it was a must-try for my family. The promise of hiking through lush tea plantations and experiencing local culture was irresistible. Here’s how our unforgettable journey unfolded.

A Journey to Munnar: The Adventure Begins

As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for experiences that can be both thrilling and enriching for families. When I heard about the Munnar Mountain Hiking adventure, I knew it was something I had to try. The promise of hiking through the lush tea plantations of Munnar, combined with cultural experiences and a stay at the Green Valley Vista, was too tempting to resist.

Our journey began with a scenic drive from Kochi to Munnar. The road trip itself was a delight, with stops at the Kerala Folklore Museum and the historic Kadamattom Church. The museum was a treasure trove of artifacts, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of Kerala. My kids were fascinated by the ancient terracotta and musical instruments, while I marveled at the intricate woodwork and traditional art forms. The church, with its deep-rooted history, was a serene stop that offered a moment of reflection amidst our adventure.

The drive also took us past the breathtaking Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls. The sight of water cascading down the rocky slopes was mesmerizing, and we couldn’t resist stopping for some family photos. The kids loved the misty spray from the falls, and it was a refreshing break before we continued our journey to Munnar.

Immersed in Munnar’s Beauty

Arriving in Munnar, we were greeted by the stunning vistas of rolling hills and lush tea plantations. Our accommodation at the Green Valley Vista was perfect, offering a balcony view that was nothing short of spectacular. The room was comfortable and spacious, making it an ideal spot for a family to unwind after a day of exploration.

The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the mountain hiking experience. The trail took us through the heart of the tea plantations, where we were surrounded by the vibrant green of the tea bushes and the crisp mountain air. It was a moderate hike, suitable for families with children, and my kids were thrilled to spot various birds and butterflies along the way.

In the evening, we had the opportunity to witness a performance at the Kalari Kshethra. The traditional dance and martial arts display was a captivating experience, offering a deeper understanding of Kerala’s cultural heritage. My children were particularly enthralled by the agility and skill of the performers, and it was a wonderful way to end our day.

A Taste of Local Culture and Nature

Our second day in Munnar was dedicated to exploring the local culture and natural beauty. We visited the Neelakkurinji Biodiversity Knowledge Center, where we learned about the unique flora and fauna of the region. The center’s focus on sustainable tourism was inspiring, and it was a great educational experience for the whole family.

On our way back to Kochi, we stopped at the Cinnamon Gardens Spice Plantation. Here, we delved into the world of spices, learning about sustainable farming practices and the art of spice making. The interactive sessions were engaging, and my kids enjoyed getting hands-on with the spices.

Reflecting on our Munnar adventure, I can confidently say that it was a perfect blend of nature, culture, and family-friendly activities. The Munnar Mountain Hiking experience offered us a chance to connect with nature and each other, creating memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. If you’re looking for a family adventure that combines exploration with relaxation, Munnar is a destination that should be on your list.
