Highlights
  • Kiruna - Aurora Hunting trip with reindeer sledding!
The reindeer herder picks you up, and we will leave the city life in Kiruna for one evening and travel eastward on the aurora borealis road. The road leads us further north into the wilderness and to the reindeer in the heart of northern Lapland.

The reindeer sledding tour brings you to the wilderness. Your new-found friend, the sled-reindeer pulls you forward. The silence emerges and you can hear the creaking of snow under the sled and the snapping from reindeer clover in the winter evening.
Imagine a clear starry sky evening far from the city lights and you may be lucky enough to see the majestic Northern Lights. You are travelling in a reindeer “rajd” as the Smi people did for hundreds of years ago in these areas. This is a true winter adventure which will make your smile shine in the winter darkness. After the tour, we feed the reindeer herd together and gather in the lvvu around the warming fire to eat a dish made of reindeer meet.

Additional Information

Picture a cloudless night, miles away from the city glow, where you might just be privileged enough to gaze upon the stunning Aurora Borealis in the heart of Finnish Lapland. Journey through the snow-covered terrain in a reindeer sleigh, traveling as the Sámi people did in these regions centuries ago. This authentic winter excursion will bring a sparkle to your smile in the midst of winter’s darkness. Roughly eighty minutes after you’ve retreated from city’s hustle and bustle, you’ll find yourself in an utterly different world where reindeers play a central role. For an evening, you get the chance to be a reindeer herder. Accompany a Sámi herder in his daily routine as he nurtures and tends to his reindeer. The human population is scant in this area, with animals ruling the expanse. Your visit may leave lasting memories, providing relaxation and rejuvenation for your mind and body. An experience to cherish and carry forward into your future.

Excellent Sami adventure - Highly recommended. It was an amazing experience with a Sámi herder, allowing us to experience a glimpse into this culture and people and their interactions with reindeer. We started by greeting and feeding the reindeer White Moss as a treat and their dinner. We then walked to the owner’s lavvu tent and then further on to meet the reindeer that would haul the sleds. The sled ride, under the stars and whipping clouds was amazing. Then back to the tent to have a traditional dinner, warm up and talk with the host. The questions we asked and the stories and photos that were shared made this a memory worth saving.

One of a kind experience - Really special experience! You can really see these people are reindeer herders and do some tours on the side (not the other way around). They are very knowledgeable and really take the time to tell you about the Sami way of life. As they are only doing small tours, some of the communication could be improved upon.

Beautiful experience - Fantastic trip where all the time was taken to make it a great experience! Unfortunately no northern lights, but all the reindeer and the sleigh ride made everything complete. Our guide was very hospitable and had a lot to tell us

A wonderful experience - It was such a beautiful experience, one that you will always remember. Fredrik was a very nice host - he welcomed us very friendly and we had the feeling of being welcome the whole time. At the beginning we fed the friendly reindeer and then took a sleigh ride with the reindeer. It was an incredible experience and we were lucky to see the Nordern Lights. After the sleigh ride we ate traditional food and Fredrik told us a lot about Sami culture. We can highly recommend this trip and would like to come back some time.

Aurora hunting with reindeer sledding AMAZING - Last night we made the *Aurora hunting with reindeer sledding* with Go to Lappland🇸🇪 Starry night, hours of northern lights, wonderful cute fellows 🦌 around us, delicious food around the campfire in Loabö ⛺, a nice squad and Bea and Frederik the two Samis. They just let us into their lives and showed us how the only and oldest indigenous people in Europe traditionally live. A simple, hard life, always connected to nature... that will still work in 2023 and hopefully continue to do so. Humility, gratitude and mindfulness of nature that is worth protecting remains in us.

A night to remember - Frederick and Beatrice dressed in their beautiful cultural clothing, provided us what a wonderful, amazing experience. They picked this up in our hotel and we went out into the wilderness. We met the reindeer and had fun feeding them. Then we went on a sleigh ride pulled by the reindeer. After a ride we went to a teepee and Beatrice prepared a delicious meal of reindeer meat. We set by a fire and enjoyed juice and hot coffee while she told stories and educated us on their culture. We were sure we were not in Kansas anymore! I admired the lovely purse she was carrying and asked her where I could get one similar to it. She told me to contact her about getting one. She can contact me at [email protected] I look forward to hearing from her. Thank you so much for a memory that we will cherish the rest of our lives. .Doug & Jan from Kansas USA
