A Taste of Kigali on foot (and motorbike!) - Shark's walking tour was a fabulous way to dip my toes into the city of Kigali. It was my first day out and about in the heart of the city and as a solo traveller, I appreciated the variety of the tour, to allow me to get a sense of the breadth of the city and to grow comfortable in an entirely new continent, for me. At the end of the tour, I felt comfortable enough to continue exploring on my own, on foot--I think this was in large part the effect of the tour. I had the rare opportunity to be the only traveller joining Shark (maybe because it was a Monday) and so we were also able to skip the taxi ride and managed to hitch a ride on his bike. Not going to lie, this added to the fun :-) [Note: even though it's a walking tour, depending on how the tour is arranged, apparently there is usually a need for a taxi at some point. This isn't too expensive in Kigali and even cheaper if you take the motorbike taxis, but worth being aware this is part of the tour. I didn't realize this when I signed up--I'm sure it was me missing it in the description, as I booked this last minute, but I can see how it would be necessary so the tour isn't isolated to one location]. Another benefit of being a lone traveller on the tour was that I got to learn lots about Kigali and also Shark's endeavors as I got to ask endless questions! That said, Shark's just very personable and friendly, I suspect this would have been the same great experience if there had been a few more travellers. I could actually see this tour being a bit lenghthier as there is lots to see in Kigali. Shark is super knowledgeable and as an expat, has an interesting insight as both someone who resides there but who knows what it's like to be a wide-eyed newbie in the city. He's also got resources and tips he shares so I'd suggest doing this tour early on in the trip--you really do get your money's worth. Shark also communicated with me the day prior via WhatsApp--a very professional service but one where you feel like you're meeting up a friend to show you around a new place. Goes without saying I'd recommend!

Walking Tour - Shark is a very charismatic tour guide who has planned out a very good route around Kigali. He went above and beyond to ensure I was supported throughout my day in Kigali. He is very passionate about Rwanda and it shows. In terms of the sights themselves, I would say they met my expectations.

Good tour to get around the city in a limited amount of time - Shark is a very kind and helpful guide. He can tell you many things about Kigali and it's history. We would have liked to go more into depth of every single spot. Like the learning more about the nyamirambo women's center.

Unusual day - I actually found this tour a bit odd. Shark's enthusiasm for the city was infectious, but I found he lacked the story telling I've come to expect from viator tours. The Tour de Rwanda was happening at the same time which certainly affected our movements around the city and definitely his itinerary. It was a different experience. Not bad. Not great.

Unfortunately I would not... - Unfortunately I would not recommend this tour, our group of 8 participated and all of us agreed it was not worth the $25 each. I didn’t hear any stories or information about the city/ history, which I expect having done many walking tours. It was essentially an escorted walk/ taxi ride between the stops with many of the slower walkers falling way behind and out of the group.

Underwhelmed. Taken to see things, but very little education and actual guiding. - I need to be fair – I actually got the dates for this tour mixed up and missed my first date. Shark was kind in allowing me to join the group the next day. I also left the 2 1/2 hour tour at 1 1/2 hours out of frustration and feeling like I could do it better on my own. So I didn't see or do everything. that said. We were a group of 12. We met up and then walked about 15 minutes to a very small art collection. We had 15 minutes there, but it really only took five minutes to see. Then we were bundled into taxis, and it took quite a bit of time to get everything organized. finally got to next destination, and again had to wait for logistics. Walked short distance to the Belgian Memorial where we were essentially left on our own to read several plaques. From there a walk to a women's cooperative, which was small, but interesting. Some people had already been there and went off to get coffee so when the rest of us were done, we had to wait for the coffee goers. At this point, I left. They went to walk-through a food market, which I did on my own. I think they tried sugarcane with lemon and ginger, and then may have returned back to downtown and a street that is blocked off and car free. It is possible that the rest of the tour was terrific. I've taken many city tours, and have always enjoyed them in the past. It's not necessarily what you're seeing, but what you're learning from the guide. In the past I've learned about history, culture, government, healthcare systems, family dynamics, etc. I also try to do them early on my trip as a jumping off point for other things to do or see or to get the flavor of the area. -- Learn about where I'm safe and where I'm not, what to do and what not to do, etc. None of this but again, I didn't complete the tour. I got the sense that shark was kind and enthusiastic but tied up on logistics and not education.

Don't waste your time and money - This was a big waste of time and money. I got nothing out of it. The guy leading the tour has nothing to offer. If this tour isn't removed from the tour offerings then something is very wrong.
