Setting Sail on the Appledore

As a relationship therapist, I often find myself seeking experiences that foster connection and intimacy. When my husband and I decided to explore Key West, the Key West Sunset Cruise was at the top of our list. We were drawn to the promise of a more intimate setting, away from the boisterous crowds that often accompany such excursions. The Appledore, a majestic schooner, seemed to offer just that—a smaller boat with fewer people, allowing for a more personal and relaxed experience.

The evening began as we boarded the Appledore at the Key West Historic Harbor. The atmosphere was immediately inviting, with a sense of camaraderie among the small group of fellow passengers. We were joined by 16 other guests, all of whom seemed to share our desire for a laid-back evening. As we set sail, the gentle sway of the schooner and the soft murmur of the sea set the perfect backdrop for what promised to be a magical night.

As the schooner glided through the harbor, we were greeted by Amber and Russ, the delightful crew who would be our hosts for the evening. Amber, with her warm smile and attentive service, ensured that our glasses were never empty. The open bar offered a delightful array of beverages, from champagne to top-shelf spirits, allowing us to toast to the breathtaking sunset that awaited us.

Russ, with his dry wit and steady hand, added a touch of humor to the evening. His stories and jokes kept us entertained as we sailed towards the inlet at Sunset Key. While the route was somewhat limited, the beauty of the setting sun more than made up for it. The sky was ablaze with hues of orange and pink, casting a warm glow over the water and creating a picture-perfect moment that my husband and I will cherish forever.

An Evening to Remember

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the schooner began its journey back to the harbor. The evening was filled with laughter and conversation, as we mingled with our fellow passengers. The light hors d’oeuvres provided were more than adequate, complementing the drinks and adding to the overall experience.

The intimacy of the smaller group allowed for genuine connections to be made, and we found ourselves chatting with new friends as if we had known them for years. It was a reminder of the power of shared experiences and the bonds that can be formed in such settings.

As we disembarked, we made sure to tip Amber and Russ generously for their exceptional service. Their dedication and warmth had truly made the evening special. As we walked hand in hand back to our hotel, the memory of the sunset cruise lingered in our minds—a perfect blend of romance, relaxation, and connection.
