Additional Information

Revel in a one-of-a-kind adventure that can only be experienced here. Wander along one of Ketchikan’s premier beaches during low tide. This distinctive outing is only allowance made once every day to capitalize on the most minimal tide.

Be witness to bald eagles, seals, and whales from the shoreline at one of Ketchikan’s prime spots. This beach stands out for its rock formations and advantageous tide pools. When the tide is out, explore the half-mile stretch of sand discovering countless species of crabs, starfish, urchins, and sea anemones, and perhaps even an octopus.

After your beach adventure, cozy up by the bonfire on the sand and enjoy roasting some s’mores.

Take a moment to visit Totem Bright State Park either on your way to the beach or on the return journey. It is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the Alaskan Native culture and behold some totem poles.

Sea urchins search - It’s the only tour we touch sea urchins and different species of sea stars. We did other tours such as kayaking and visiting other coves but we didn’t see sea urchins

Highly Recommend with local family tour! - This excursion is run by a lovely local Alaskan family. Their girls were great to help us find sea creatures and did not disappoint. They communicated prior to meeting up, they were on time…. We enjoyed getting away from tourist areas…. Highly recommend this excursion especially for kids that love to explore.

Amazing experience! - We LOVED this excursion! We wanted something a little different when we got to Ketchikan and this fit the bill. We had the amazing fortune to be the only group that morning (myself, my husband, and our daughter) so we had a very interactive experience. The van was large and comfortable for us and our backpacks. When we arrived at the beach, they already had some wildlife pulled out into a small pool for us to see and they had laminated info cards to ID the things we might see. We had a chance to explore along the shore and in the rocks and tide pools before we headed to a forested area with tables and fire pits. They had a fire going with s'mores, hot coffee and hot cocoa. Everyone we spoke with was so knowledgeable and helpful. We would 100% book this excursion through Alaska Puddle Jumpers again in the future! Highly recommend!

Fantastic time - Caught the extreme low tide with tons of exposed shoreline. Fun hunting for various sea creatures. Picked up some massive sea cucumbers! Definitely recommend for anyone curious or wanting sometime away from the ship (and it's hordes of people).

Great tour with local feel - The “Refuge Cove Beach” is a definite hidden gem on the island. It has a long rocky beach to do lots of exploring…finding all sorts of ocean critters at low tide! And right along the beach is a forested area with picnic table and a beautiful winding trail overlooking the ocean waters. This all makes for a wonderful and relaxing 2 to 3 hour adventure….a must see on your visit to Ketchikan!
