Highlights
  • Lake Nakuru - Lake Nakuru, a small (it varies from 5 to 30 square kilometers) shallow alkaline lake on the edge of the town of Nakuru lies about 160 kilometers north of Nairobi. It can therefore be visited in a day tour from the capital or more likely as part of a circuit taking in the Masai Mara or Lake Baringo and east to Samburu. The lake is world famous as the location of the greatest bird spectacle on earth - myriads of fuschia pink flamingoes whose numbers are legion, often more than a million maybe two. The park now has more than 25 rhinos, one of the largest concentrations in the country, so the chances of spotting these survivors are good. There are also a number of Rothschild’s giraffe, again translocated for safety from western Kenya beginning in 1977. Waterbuck are very common and both the Kenya species are found here. Among the predators are lion and leopard, the latter being seen much more frequently in recent times.

Wonderful Solo Tour - Titus was a fantastic guide! I was a solo traveler and never felt unsafe. The guide was very professional, a great driver, and had a good eye for spotting all the animals! To note: the typical lunch spot is solidly a tourist trap, so just be aware before you go into it. Don't buy any souvenirs from the shop. Ask not to go to the buffet spot next to a gift shop if possible.

Molten rock safaris in Nakuru national park - We have always loved the game and sites. Molten rock safaris will at all times make a day trip from Nakuru city. This park has the best sceneries the Savannah, hills, forest, lake, cliffs and not forgetting the wildlife.

Stephen the King - Stephen Mutuku, my guide was easily the best part. He went above and beyond for me in many capacities such as getting a phone code, phone charging, and getting me to a PCR covid testing hospital AFTER the tour was over and staying to make sure I was taken care of. AMAZING! As far as the tour went, Lake Nakuru is indeed beautiful and natural. The only complaint I have is no one's fault, the animals just didn't cooperate on this day. They tried to find the lions who had a fresh kill that morning and were obviously resting the rest of the day. Other than that Stephen was very knowledgeable about the area and the animals we observed

A bit disappointed to see fewer flamingos than I expected. - I visited Lake Nakuru a couple of days ago. While I enjoyed the peaceful beauty of the lake and the birds, I was somewhat disappointed because the number of flamingos was a lot less than I expected. The signature photo of the Viator tour for Nakuru Lake shows a huge flock of flamingos, but in reality, the number is fewer than shown in the photo, because of changing weather patterns. Also, you can't get too close to the birds because of the lake so the view is from quite a distance.

Amazing wildlife - I was booked to go with other people but no-one else on my tour. I went solo. I was a bit worried but the trip was great seeing heaps of wildlife. It was extremely cold in the morning on the drive to Lake Nakuru. The driver had his window opened and cold air was coming in the sides of the bus. I did suggest putting on the heat but he said we don't do that. The driver was on his phone most of the game drive, he was not as knowledgeable as other game drivers I have had. But he was pleasant and I felt safe. There was no place to get food or food stops were not offered to me. Luckily I had a packed breakfast from my hotel, which I had to make last the whole day. The driver stopped and said he had to get something and returned I believe he returned with food. But at no time did he ask me if I needed food or drink. The whole reason for my trip was to see rhino and flamingos which I did see (not super close, but I could see them). Being the only person in the bus I could see out both sides. This made the tip. All in all it was a very good trip and I would recommend it to anyone.

Tour Description - The tour Description didn’t depict 8 hours of driving time and less than two hours of park time.. arriving at midday is not the best time for viewing the animals as they hiding in the shade during the heat of the day. The driver did not have knowledge of the flora or culture of the villages along the journey. He could not recommend restaurants for lunch.
