A Day of Discovery on Kauai’s East Side

When I first heard about the Kauai East Side Adventure, I was immediately intrigued. The idea of exploring the beautiful island of Kauai at my own pace, without the hassle of a rental car, sounded like the perfect family adventure. With two kids in tow, flexibility is key, and this hop-on, hop-off bus tour promised just that. We packed our day bags, slathered on sunscreen, and set off for a day of exploration and fun.

Our first stop was the Kukui Grove Center, a bustling shopping area where we could grab a quick breakfast and stock up on any essentials we might need for the day. The kids were thrilled to pick out some local snacks, and I couldn’t resist browsing through the charming boutiques. The atmosphere was lively, and it was the perfect way to kick off our adventure.

Exploring Nature and Culture

As we hopped back on the bus, our knowledgeable guide shared fascinating insights about the island’s history and culture. Our next stop was the Smith’s Fern Grotto Tour, where we were treated to a leisurely stroll through a lush botanical garden. The vibrant colors and exotic plants were a feast for the senses, and the kids had a blast spotting different types of birds and insects.

We also took a short river cruise, which was a highlight of the day. The gentle breeze and stunning views of the Wailua River State Park made for a relaxing and memorable experience. The kids enjoyed waving to other boats and spotting fish in the clear waters. It was a perfect blend of education and entertainment, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to share this with my family.

Relaxation and Family Fun

After a morning of exploration, we decided to take a break at Lydgate Beach. The kids splashed around in the gentle waves while my husband and I enjoyed a refreshing tiki cocktail at Mamahune’s Tiki Bar. The laid-back atmosphere and beautiful beach views were exactly what we needed to recharge for the rest of the day.

Our final stop was the Kauai Plantation Railway, where we embarked on a charming train tour of the Kilohana Plantation. The kids were thrilled to ride the train and learn about the plantation’s history. We even had the chance to sample some delicious local rum at the Koloa Rum Tasting, which was a delightful treat for the adults.

As the day came to a close, we hopped back on the bus, feeling content and fulfilled. The Kauai East Side Adventure had provided us with a perfect blend of relaxation, education, and family fun.
