Highlights

Your journey begins in the early evening at Kauai’s Kilohana Plantation with craft demonstrations and Hawaiian games. You’ll have the option to ride on the Kauai Plantation Railway (additional cost), the first new railroad built in Kauai in nearly 100 years.\n\nThen, witness a traditional imu ceremony, where one of your main courses (pork) is unearthed from an underground oven. You can also order some yummy tropical drinks at the bar (own expense). \n\nYou’ll then be treated to a scrumptious buffet dinner of lomi-lomi salmon, pork, ono and teriyaki chicken with vegetables and salads. Top it off with some fresh tropical fruit and dessert.\n\nAfter dinner, head to your seats in the Luau Pavilion and watch a colorful performance of traditional Polynesian dancers, fire twirlers and knife dancers. Watch as they paint a vivid story of the journey of the first Tahitian voyagers to the Hawaiian Islands, displaying their hardship, drama and finally triumph. Sit back, relax and become immersed in the state-of-the-art media system and stage design.\n\nAt the end of the show, you’ll have the opportunity to take photos with the cast!\n\nPoints of Interest\n\n- 3-2087 Kaumualii Hwy

Additional Information

Luau Kalamaku has been a welcoming hub for tourists in Kauai since 2007. Known as the only Hawaii luau presentation executed “in-the-round,” it ensures the stage is viewable from all angles. Experience the miraculous extraction of the pig from the customary imu (underground oven) along with the fun of a hula lesson. Visit the craft exhibition showcasting remarkable creations by local craftsmen on the extensive lawn. Relish a variety of delectables from the buffet, that offers local and well-known dishes, and sip a Mai Tai from the bar. The main performance elucidates the fascinating tale of the ancient Hawaiian lore of Kalamaku, ‘offspring of the new territory.’ With a combination of amusement, fright, allure, and fire, a fresh heritage is born, inheriting the priceless characteristics of their forefathers. The drama-based luau spectacle concludes with an outstanding fire dream, featuring fire poi balls and customary fire knife dancing.

Lovely show that everyone could enjoy! - I loved that the stage was in the middle of the venue so most everyone had a good vantage point. I liked the story, fire twirling and food choices.

An amazing experience!! - We weren’t sure what to expect from our luau experience…but it was outstanding! Everything was so well planned and executed from the parking attendants to check-in to pictures to drinks, food and show. The food was outstanding! We were concerned about how long a buffet meal would take but this group has it down to a science! There was live entertainment during dinner which led up to the feature show. A brief review here will not do it justice…it was more than we had expected and just wonderful!! The luau may seem pricey—and it isn’t cheap—but absolutely worth the experience!!

Spectacular! - The show was spectacular! We would definitely see it again and recommend it not be missed. We only did the luau, not the train, but wished we would have to get the full experience and history.

Very large luau - The Luau was fun overall had a good time with my family. The food was good and we enjoyed dinner. Very limited drink options for kids. Only soda, water, or pineapple juice which came off a soda gun. Nothing I saw was fresh which was a bit disappointing for the price tag. Far bigger than I expected with somewhere from 500 to 1000 people. The stage, lights, and speaker system is needed to make the show visible and audible for that many people but certainly cheapens it a bit and makes in not feel authentic. It does go til after dark and if you have a drive after that can make it a late night, especially with the time change. My kids were exhausted towards the end and were nodding off during the show. I might recommend booking this towards the end of your trip if you are going to once the kids are adjusted to the time difference. Worth it for an experience but I doubt I would book it again.

Did not meet our expectations. - Enjoyed the entertainment. Buffet was average. Did not receive a lei greeting. Train ride was ok, better for families with kids. Shuttle driver was fine but did not stay on sched.,which caused us to be rushed off to the train and missed imu unveiling, market and pre show.
