Additional Information

Despite the English moniker, the Hawaiian Dundee Charlie is a ‘genuine Native Hawaiian,’ with lineage tracing back to the globally renowned ‘Napali Coast Kauai.’ For nearly half a century, he has embarked on ventures across the untamed terrains and rainforests of Hawai’i. His tenure in the D.L.N.R., within the Forestry & Wildlife and Parks division, spanned the 1980’s and early 90’s. He further broadened his experience during a 3-year stint as a Wilderness Ranger in California, starting from 1993. He provides a thorough introduction to his culture, Hawai’i’s wildlife, and its historical timeline.

His knack for exploration caught the attention of some major TV shows, leading to appearances such as;

In ‘Hacking the Wild’ (science channel): he co-starred in the second episode titled, ‘Curse of The Jungle’, which aired on Feb, 22 2017. He showed up in ‘NBC’s Biggest Loser’ and the ‘MTV’ reality show, ‘Are You The One’, where he instructed on waterfalls rappelling protocols. Several professional guidebooks have also featured him.
The tour he conducts is not generic but tailored, and the ‘off trail hiking’ into the secluded areas of da island is a unique experience.

Best experience I’ve booked! - This was the best experience my husband and I booked in Kauai, hands down. Da Hawaiian Dundee treated us like family and made us feel super comfortable. We learned so much and gained more confidence in ourselves in the water. We also got the privilege to hike with a shy dog named Shadow who I now love very much!! If you want something to do, this is well worth the money. We will 100% be coming back to Kauai and booking with him again! We loved it so much and would recommended it to anyone we know. We felt very safe with him and had a blast!

Beauty and Adventure off the Beaten Path - Charlie is outstanding. He gave us first rate instruction, filled us with lots of local knowledge, provided a tour we could never find on our own and gave us memories to last a lifetime. If you’re up for an adventure off the normal beaten path, this trip is for you. We learned repelling, ascending and jumped from a waterfall in one beautiful and glorious day. Charlie is just a quality human being to wrap it up. And I can’t forget Shadow who kept watch over us. All in all it was fantastic. Thank you!!!

Breathtakingly amazing! - Had an AMAZING time with da jungle Dundee! We went on a 4+hour hike and didn’t pass a single sole. He gave us individual attention when instructing us how to rappel down the mountain and we felt safe. We made a gentle friend, Shadow who is a lost hunting dog. Shadow followed us the entire hike. But WAIT… it gets better… Da Jungle Dundee took us to a private water fall that we got to climb up, jump off and swim under. We learned about the land and some history of Hawaii but it wasn’t too much or too dry. The perfect amount! In other words, this excursion was by far, our most amazing memory from Hawaii. If we ever return, we will be doing this again!

Awesome views and unique locals - Hawaiian Dundee looked at us and knew that he had to change plans. He took us on a unique photographing journey far less vigorous.

Fantastic jungle adventure - BEST adventure you could book on Kauai. Your guide is amazing. He adjusts each adventure to the ability and desires of your group. He is very knowledgeable about the jungle, history and culture of Kauai and all of Hawaii. You will get 100% wet. Wear leggings and tennis shoes. Some in my group wore hiking boots, great for the walking portion but not great when crossing streams and swimming. Light weight long sleeve shirts would best. I left invigorated and with a true Hawaiian peace. Thank you Hawaiian Dundee!

Rainy Day Adventure of a Lifetime - When I booked this tour I worried about the weather— and when I saw it was going to be SUPER rainy I was pretty bummed. But thank goodness we didn’t cancel. This has to be one of the best things you can do on Kauai on a rainy day. Just wear shoes with good tread that you don’t mind getting full of mud, quick dry pants and a hat. Even my tough to impress college kids said it was “Amazing!!” It’s a true adventure. Like Survivor style. And the landscape is breathtaking— even in the rain where you get a true rainforest experience. “When da heavens cry da Earth lives”. Mahalo Charlie for a day we will never forget!

The afternoon that made this trip - We’ve hiked along the coast, up bluffs and some forest hikes, usually nice views but always lots of people. Charley’s tour is nice views and your quite by yourself. He’s a gem in the rough. I hadn’t planned on repelling and ascending with climbing ropes since 1970’s. When he explains how to do something listen closely and pay attention. We’re not into rock climbing or ropes but to see this valley, to climb behind a waterfall, to have a taste of ascending the trail you repelled down woke up the kid in me and my wife. Listen, pay attention and enjoy this trip. Keep it simple and enjoy an afternoon that was way off the beaten path. We hope he has good luck with his very shy, almost tame wild dog.
